We specialize in Vectors which GIMP does not do sorry.  If you're interested in Vectors however, Ponyscape is a great, free option to use.

I'm quite stuck at vectoring since there are no tutorials anywhere to help me in the actual drawing of a path- how to draw one and keep it going smoothly with getting bendy or out of shape. Could somebody possibly tell me how the paths work? I'd be grateful.

It'll help to know what program you're using. Once we know that, we can help you a bit better :).

Now for my next questions: Are you using a mouse or tablet? Are you trying to trace both sides of an outline or are you using strokes?

It may help for you to check the tutorials in the sidebar of the MLP Vectors subreddit.
