This is very emotional, and striking. First off, the way the shadows are around the edges, and in the center is light, makes it very eerie. The composition draws the eye in, and you wonder why the child is sitting there. Is he listening to his parents fight? Is this a 'secret place' he goes to escape when things are tough, or maybe to hide when he's caused mischief? Either way, I think it's something most people can relate to, being secluded when you were a child, whether by choice or parental force. It's honestly a very lovely photo. Well done.

Okay, to be honest I am not a trained writer for critique on art and in english. But "La derniere marche" really touches my heart and soul.

This is the point why this deviation stands out so shining. It shows a situation of many peoples childhood. At least I was remembered of mine. Dispite it's not sure why the kid sits there, it probably reminds everyone of waiting, doubtfulness, hope in a way, loneliness and of course the inevitable love to our parents, though they left us alone sometimes.

The angle of view is just a perfect choice, 'cause the stairs also lead into uncertainty and in the dark. That the boy wears no T-Shirt awakens the feeling of emotional nudity and the coldness of being left alone. Maybe it even scares some of the watchers, because it went pretty deep into the subcontious mind.

Also the black and white setup is a great way to show the drabness of such a situation and the memories. Color isn't even 'allowed' here. These just would make a joke out of the happend things.
Let's be honest - are your bad memories colored?

"La derniere marche" is a great trip down repressed memories lane.

The English language is not really my specialty, so all apologies in advance for what follows; I need to “think" in my native language and then translate what is probably not the best way to proceed.
Thank you very much for this touching criticism. Knowing that one has managed to touch someone, to create an emotion in that person is a enormous reward, a great reward. It justifies the time spent, all the doubts and dark moments where you say for yourself, "Is anyone going to understand what I want to show? Is that someone will feel something?"
I started some time ago to work on the theme of childhood, thinking to have one or two interesting ideas that could possibly "meet" an audience. Since I started, it seems to me that I could never exhaust the subject, I never get the end of this theme. Because in reality, I believe that all our anxieties, our fears of adults come directly from our childhood, like demons who follow us throughout our lives step by step.
"La dernière marche" is the eternal uncertainty, the doubt that we live when leaving childhood. Each step moves us away from innocence and takes us ever closer to the darkness, toward a world of adult cold and dark. A hard world where each one of us must find a role. So he is sitting there, he wears no t-shirt, to emphasize its fragility and vulnerability, and he wonders without too much knowing which awaits it, if he wants to discover it. Sometimes it seems that I am sitting a few steps further. Another step.

Hmm, I am glad that there is so much behind your photos. So much intention and passion. Thanks for being an artist within the term of "photographer". Thanks for the further explaining of "La dernière marche". Now it even touches me more.

Thanks.

This is so beautiful and it's so sad. I see this and want to grab him up and protect him. He looks like he was left all alone.
