Captain Jack Sparrow by LDFranklin Captain Jack Sparrow by LDFranklin
Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.

A project I did for my typography class. Also, it was my very first time using Adobe InDesign.

So, what do you think? Does it look like him?

Oh my God... you know... I have no idea! I made this back in 2007, so I really can't remember what font I used! And I've bought so many new computers since then, I don't think I have the original file saved to see what it was! Sorry!

Woah, that's amazing! What does it say, though?

Thank you! It doesn't say anything... just random letters!

Ah, I see. I spent about ten minutes trying to read it myself and I was baffled. XD

Awesome!

I'm surprised you did it using InDesign. Was it a requirement to use that particular program? I ask this because we did something similar, but we used Illustrator. Typically we use InDesign to make spreads not actual artwork type things.

Yah, it was a requirement to use InDesign. She said, "I know you can use other programs to make this, but the purpose of this class is to get familiar with the features of InDesign."

Thanks! Though technically it wasn't my idea... It was the teacher's. She assigned a project where we had to create the face of a famous person made entirely out of letters.

Thanks!

Yah, it took several hours! It took especially long because I'd never used InDesign before, so it took me awhile to get used to the program and how to do things.

To create it I used a photo reference. I studied the photo and planned out what shapes I wanted to make out of text. Then I drew the shapes and opened the drawing in InDesign. Then in a separate layer, I placed the letters over the shapes I wanted... one letter at a time. Then when I was finished, I deleted the first layer with the drawing and tada!

It hasn't been graded yet, so I'm anxious to see what I made!
