Razorkid Frostbite cover by lazesummerstone Razorkid Frostbite cover by lazesummerstone
This is something I just finished for the action packed comic Razorkid Written by Marcus Almand or :icontherazorkid: here on DeviantArt!

I really enjoyed working on this because when Marcus told me what he wanted for the cover I realized immediately that it was something I'd die to draw. So obviously I enjoyed working on it. I've never drawn a rain scene either so it was extra challenging. How can you say no to drawing superpowers like that? Plus Frostbite is an awesome character.

Thanks a lot, I really put a lot of effort into the rain and ice, I wanted them to look like what they are, so I'm glad you like them.

As I'm sure you've heard, there's been a little bit of turmoil over at Tokyopop, but hopefully it should be out sometime in the Fall of this year.

Very epic feel to this- the fisheye distortion gives it a lot of motion and energy. A big whooooosh upwards. Great details with the rain and background too :)

If you hand-made the rain, that must have taken hours to do, drop by drop.... :o

But that shows how detailed and careful you are about your art, something I have always admired, hehehe ^_______^

Teach me how to draw toes someday, lol

hehe yeah it was hand done, but I just kind of made lots of lines in adobe and added a slight blur effects and layers. Oh plus splashes of white that I scanned in on another layer. I tried to do it it with effects only- but it came out cheesy. Its better to do them one raindrop at a time!

And toes are a lot easier then hands!

At first, that's why I chose a hooved creature to be my character, but that also become a nightmare to draw his feet, lol xD;;;

Well, I should take all your advices and "making of" tips next time I try this kind of effect... it's great to learn from the top ones! :worship:

Amazing :)

You must have worked on this work of art forever there is so much detail in it! The steam coming off his hand, to even the small ripple effects you placed in the water.

<3s and runs off to read the comic

yeah I worked on it way longer then I usually do. But it's a comic book cover, so it needs the most love and attention that I could give. I just stopped because frankly I ran out of things to add to it.

You really did an awesome job on it too Jake  And that rain is splendid, especially considering you had not done it before, even down to it actually hitting the street and those reflective puddles :D

Hey thanks a bagillion times over! Those puddles were hard, so it's annoying that realistically, you won't really see them too well. I'm glad you noticed though!

Really awesome, dood. Especially the background. Do you use references when you do backgrounds like this?

Thanks a lot! Actually I didn't use any reference. Well, I googled rain drops to see how they look like when they splash on pavement, but I couldn't find any good pictures. So in the end it all came out of my mind. (it might have looked better if I had used reference... hmm maybe thats a good idea for the future).

Ha ha, that's really good that you can pop it out of your head like that though. I can do the perspective and all that but I would have trouble thinking of the details, like the pipes in the highway or the barriers at the side of the road. I probably just need to do it more often.

Cool! (no pun intended har har)- I'm glad that you liked the rain texture, I worked on it for a long long time. Sadly most of it you have to zoom in- which is impossible with Deviantart... oh well!

Not only the rain, but I love the background, a lot, they grays really make the rain pop out (and I should know, I live in a province which is known for it's perpetual rain :XD:)
I'm glad DA doesn't have xoom in, some art (mine har har) is better viewed at a distance :P but yours would look awesome, some artists take a few detail close ups of they're art and submit it, maybe try that, you could show off some of that wicked awesome detail.
