Hello and sorry for the reaaaaaaaallly late reply. I have been away from dA again. Sorry.
I find inspiration for environments from collecting interesting photos and splashing random colors and shapes and textures on the digital canvas. When I start seeing some picture in that mess, then I make up a story and refine the painting to match this story. In this case it's the difference between the poor people that live in the foreground huts, and the civilization that build that dam. Yes it's a dam, but it likely had another purpose too. Power plant maybe? Or a piece of a larger structure? I don't have that much backstory for it. Some of my paintings illustrate places or people for which I have a lot of backstory, but this one is a single, separate picture.
