Hi everyone! Here is a watercolor painting (I edited the colors so they're a bit brighter than the actual painting) that I made of a dog in my canine club.
Jinko was a 3 year-old very fierce golden retriever, extremely joyful. I love this moment, where he was looking at his owner.

Please don't use this painting, it's a tribute, not meant to any other usage.

Utterly beautiful. I love the texture of the fur, how happy that pup looks,
and especially the blue background that fades. Awesome portrait there!

I love how you paint fur, it looks so soft and it just blends so perfectly with the rest of the piece
Smart choice with the background, it compliments his eye colour well C:

Thank you :) I made tests with paint tool sai beforehand to choose as carefully as possible the background color.
Also his eyes were brown, but on this photo, they reflected his owner's clothes, and I found it nice to put this touch on his portrait... <3

Also thanks for the fur! It was the first time I did fur like this in traditional art, because it's basically my digital art method, and I was super happy to see it actually worked pretty well this way :)

Welcome, and really? Thats quite thoughtful, usually I just pick whatever colour hue was in the shading and slap whatever comes to mind in the back. He looks lovely regardless. Goldens usually do, they just have such a calm and regal air about them. That or theyre total goofs hahah

No problem. I can never get fur right and whenever I try anything realistic it just seems awkward. I can truly appreciate it best when I cant do it no matter how hard I try hahaha I seems I need more practice.

Ahhah yeah I totally agree about the super calm /vs super goofy golden retriever! This one was a total goof <3

Also I think taking some time to make  little color / composition tests before a "big" painting gives a much easier time when it comes to painting for real :) I took the tip from TamberElla and actully took the habit much faster than I would have thought ;)

Brilliant dogs, retrievers. Honestly If I had to have any dog it would either be a GSD, Collie or a retriever. Theyre all just so well mannered and smart enough that training catches on easily.

Hmmm I should spend some time looking into compositions and such. I have a few things bookmarked like youtube vids that explain how to put together a nice overall image and how to catch the eye and such. ONE DAY ILL GET AROUND TO THEM I SWEAR

Well I have a labrador mix, and honestly, although we had (still have but less so) issues with him, he's still such a good boy! Really nice to work with, and most importantly, he's very fond of humans. EVen if it means he doesn't like other dogs that much, it's a pleasure to work with him because he's always there to at least try.

And As for compositions, yeah it's always nice to learn things :) I don't spend that much time watching videos or anything, but I catch little tips here and there (such as: the more details on what you want the viewer to look at and less details on the rest of the painting --> easier to paint AND more catchy. I did it in this very painting ;) )

Awe thats so cute
I have a collie mix and a beagle currently. The collie is legit an ANGEL! Its actually so hard because everything the beagle does seems huge because the other is so well behaved when in reality both doggos are very well behaved considering
I lot my pets so much ahhh

I usually put the videos in the background for noise and then sometimes something will stick but I would go looking more than anything. I am horribly unobservant when I dont need to be so small tips and details completely sail over my head hahaha

Oh gosh I soooo understand you! My dog trainer often needs to remind me my dog is like super well behaved compared to other's because each little issue we have with him sounds huge to me when it actually isn't such an issue....

And well, I totally get you for the background noise videos, I tend to do that too, but with pokemon shiny hunting vids lol
