News, my ducklings!

We'll start off with some bad. One, I fail at writing the chapters of my stay. Just note me and I'll chat to you about it, or IM me. Two...

I am no longer a Dragcave spriter.

My sprites are on hiatus. I just can't sink more time and effort into something like this-it's gone stale and it's really hurting me, creatively, personally, and educationally. So, I've left. If they get their acts together and come into some organisational skills, I'll come back. But it's nutty right now, and it's not going anywhere. So, poof.

On the happier note, now I'll have a lot more time for my Art Diploma. Wee!

I'm going to be sinking a lot more time into a project of my boyfriend and I. It's a roleplay site, a whole little world with some more interesting gameplay than most, or at least I hope! So, you may get spammed with doodles for that, but that won't happen until I find my stylus...

Wish me luck, yo.

Dove, I'm curious, now that you've left DC, how will the ascendeds for your sprites be handled? Are you gonna go with a flat out no to them, or will they be open for others to create? And I don't mean the core dragons, I mean for the newer ones like the Magma :3

To be hone really never liked the ascended project much. It may sound awful, but it feels like what should have been mouthwateringly amazing art has been...well...substandard. I'm considering the possibilty (secret) of maybe finishing up a few loose ends here and there, but not partaking further.

As for the Magma, she still needs a boyfriend.

Not gonna lie, but if she wanted her sprites pulled, she'd have every right and I would support her all the way.

Perhaps TJ09 should think about creating backup sprites for the released dragons, that way there wouldn't be a fog or whatever if someone decided to pull. After all, we all know how much everyone needs 2 c theyr dragonz erryday!!!!111!~!!!

Ya rly man!

Eh, that would sadly end up in drama. I still think a more proffesional approuch will have to spawn soon, because there is a metric fuckton of dragons and it's getting batshit crazy.

I don't think that the problem people have with this is the fact that she was pulling her sprites. Yes, that part was sad, but we'd get over it in time.
The problem becomes when she announces it on the public forum before taking it to the higher-ups and coming to a decision. It was effectively the same as standing up on a chair at work and saying "OH BY THE WAY, I'M ANGRY WITH THE COMPANY SO I THINK IM GONNA LEAVE AND TAKE ALL OF MY PROJECTS, K?" Instead of walking over to your boss and saying "Heres my 2 weeks notice." Or just plain and simple. "Sorry, but I quit." and then asking to retain your copyright of the artwork by having it removed in a polite and mature fashion. That way, perhaps over a designated period of time, the artwork could slowly change to the new sprites as they're made, Eventually replacing all of them, but without the drama.

As for creating backup sprites for released dragons, how would you like it if for every thing you did in your job, you had to have at least one backup person just in case you decide to leave and take everything you'd done for the company with you? That's twice the work toward the same effect, and honestly, its kind of ridiculous to suggest that. Things like this shouldn't happen often enough to require backup artists for every dragon.

And although this is the internet, and not as serious of a business as jobs in the real world, employers are looking more and more into past reputation through said internet. And honestly, if employers have any reason to fear that if they upset her she'll try to pull the whole company down with her, they're
going to have reservations about hiring her in the first place.

I'm sorry that my first comment on Dove's journals has to be of this nature, but for as much as I adore her artwork, this was incredibly immature and ill planned.
As nothing can be done about the situation now, it would be best to learn from the lesson, and just know that the next time something like this happens, it can no longer be hidden behind youth and inexperience. It will simply be immaturity.

I am sorry, but this is moronic. This whole fiasco make you look like a selfish drama queen.

"If they get their acts together and come into some organisational skills, I'll come back."

AKA if you get your way/they do what you want? This comment stinks of childishness.

It is sad to see the dragons go... sad that so many people are disappointed. That children are sad, and that I have to explain to an autistic 6 year old why her dragons will be disappearing. But honestly, don't "come back". If this is the sort of disappointment and idiocy you leave in your wake when you're butthurt, then just take it elsewhere.

By all means, exercise your "right" to withdrawal your sprites. I will be exercising my "right" to think you're a d-bag.

There is a reason my nickname at school is "Douchebag", m'afraid.

Yes, it was rather childish, but I do find it offensive that you would use your own daughter to further your arguement. I am, myself autistic, albiet on the high-functioning end of the spectrum. For the record, I did have utter and complete right to my artork, and I was sick of being treated unfairly and disrespectfully. I may be childish, but it took this fiasco to bring the issues to TJ's attention. He's also still a kid. And despite the affection I feel for him as a friend, he is also a bit of a douchebag.

Fire with fire.

Although I might have done this badly, it seems to have been effective.

I just don't plain get it.

Yes, I understand that you could be angry at TJ for some reason. I get that DC COULD be holding you back. But I agree with Dr. Paine and FairyDollz.

I really do hope you reconsider about this and at the very least, let the In-Cave sprites stay IN-CAVE. I absolutely adore the New Pinks by the way.

It would be a never ending hell if you pulled ALL if you sprites, even collaborated ones. If this is a hiatus, then why not let the sprites stay? It just doesn't make sense to me.

I hope you give us a reason or reconsider.

Thanks.

You just go through the list of requests and say, "Hey, maybe I can help with this!" or, "MY LUST IS OVERWHELMING AND I MUST BE PART OF THIS PROJECTdaus7lksjglklkl;l."

Hi Dove! *long time watcher/reader, first time poster?*

I've been a DC member, of both site and forum, for quite a while, and I must say your sprites are my favorites. My first dragon was a Water and the only reason I kept playing at all was because of how beautiful your sprite is - I had to see what the others looked like! The Water sprite is still my favorite, and I will be very sad to see it go, as well as your others.

I sincerely hope you can think about changing your mind about the in cave dragons, but I understand if you don't. I'm not sure what happened to make all of this happen, but I hope it can be fixed. And I hope all goes well with you as well. :)

Good luck, Dove!

I don't know you and I am not a reader of the Dragcave forum. A friend of mine told me about you quitting, so I thought I could write you my thoughts about it - although they don't really matter I guess.

I don't know what triggered this decision, and I don't expect you to tell a complete stranger about all of this. However, out of my egoistic point of vies, I hope you'll let the Sprites stay on Dragoncave. They are wonderful, they look awesome and I'd hate to see them being replaced by some others.

So, I hope that you will let them stay.

However, if you feel like it - then take your time off. Get some rest, concentrate on you life, on your education. Take care.

I don't see why everyone seems to think that we deserve and explanation from Dove about why she's leaving.

We don't pay for DC, it's just for fun. I get why some people could be upset, but truthfully, can't you people just let her go? It's her business and her business alone why she's leaving, she doesn't owe any of us an explanation.

Dove, you will be missed, good luck.

Thankyou, but I feel they do deserve it. I didn't get into art just for myself, and while originally DC was an oppportunity to further myself, it's grown to be so much more. I don't feel I fit as a spriter anymore, but now that I am released of that responsibility I can direct my energy into breathing more life into DC itself.

She wouldn't, except for the fact that pulling her art has a massive effect on the site, and for people who play. It's just rude to give something to people, then take it back with no explanation why.

I get that that's how you feel, but it doesn't change my point. Just because you're upset that she's leaving without any explanation doesn't change the fact that you're not owed one.

I agree that it would have a massive effect on the people who the site and the people who play, but in the end it's her decision.

I'll write here what I put on the DC thread as it is what I feel and I think you need a bit of relief from people going nuts.

Dove, you will be much missed. You are one of the top spriters of DC and without your bright spark, your special touch with the pixels, the dragons will be lacking something.

I'll add my voice to the multitude and say that while I don't want you or your sprites to go, I'll try to understand. I will wish you the best of luck in whatever you are doing next, and grant you the biggest blessing I know. May you get what you deserve. Take care.

This.

Not to mention, creating PUBLIC art for a PUBLIC space, one is making themselves PUBLIC. People want recognition and "fame" for their accomplishments, but then when the attention isn't positive, people cry about being "bashed" and claim their right to privacy.

I agree. I know a few people who killed and burned their scrolls when the original pink dragon was discontinued (I had a friend who only collected pinks, and when they said there would be no more pinks she cried...) It is sad... and it dose seem a bit childish, but then again we were given no real reason why she is doing this. I do not think it is the right move. A lot of people are going to be upset, and it could be something that brings all of dragon cave down as well because of the amount of work that will be taken off... will the sprites be replaced? will the breeds just be deleted? what is going to happen to the rest of us who are staying on DC? it's sad... and I hope she reconsiders and let's us keep the dragons that she has given to us.

Everyone who thinks you shouldn't be allowed to remove your sprites is ultimately selfish and has no respect for your work. I really wish people would be more appreciative of the hard work the artists on DC put into those sprites and stop being so selfish and demanding.

Good luck in your endeavors, and I can't wait to see what art you have to post next!
