LI FREE - DAZ Studio Light Preset by Laticis LI FREE - DAZ Studio Light Preset by Laticis
This file is one light preset but I hope you find it very useful.

It consist of two yes two by UberEnvironment2 Lights in the same scene with a parented Distant Light per source, one to act as a Key Light the other a Rim Light.

The creator Omnifreaker hints at only having one UE2 Light in your DS scene...www.omnifreaker.com/index.php?… I have thrown caution to the wind and found good results with this method.

Rotating (mainly use the Y Axis) the UE2 will move with its parented Distant Light and changing either one of the UE2 Lights Colour can offer that right touch to set the mood.

Pay close attention to the UE2 Key / Rim  Light's Contrast Value, this can be used as well as the Intensity and Intensity Scale sliders to give a sharper / more intense light source. ( There is much room to move )

This is a Simple & Effective Light...have FUN and Happy Rendering.

Any feedback would be much appreciated and if you want to share something you have created just shoot me a link.

Cheers Laticis

NOTE: Inside the ZIP File ReadMe is one Portrait Render using Olympia's MATS and my Post Worked Version of that so you can see how much more work I do in Photoshop after the render.

I've been using your light set here for a few renders I have put out this last week and the results are amazing.  I love them!!  The last few renders in my Pandora's Book series are my examples.  I didn't do much in tweaking them, just used as they are default and I could not be more happy!!  Thank you again for the lights, you have changed my render quality for the better!

Here's hoping! I will try and get some time to myself this week to have a play
around with it, but it doesn't look good. Meetings and appointments this week
are eating into my 3D time, blagh! :(

Your welcome.

That is a tough question that I can really answer in words it would have to be shown, I do have  few tips available though.

Thank you!

I have many times mistakenly rendered with two UEs (have forgotten that one was loaded) and then deleted one after noticing there was too much light. But nothing crashed and my computer didn't explode. I never thought of deliberately using two. This will be fun.

And this is another example of why I don't get DS at all.  Not only do I not understand whether this is one of many environmental lighting options or not, but I don't see why you'd ever need more than one environment light.

I'll stick to systems where I have GI, and if I want to fake my ambient light, I just use IBL/HDRI.

There are only two Environmental Lights in DS that I know of one by Omnifreaker and the other by Age of Armour.

Normally you don't ( only one is recommended ) but I am using a simple image map the drive the lighting.

I have Octane for that now :)

I always did like Poser Lighting though

Hehehehe!  "Only" two!  You know, it's not that I don't like DS/3Delight lighting and materials.  I love the softness to its shading.  It's that I can't deal with the lack of standards and uniformity.  Just to be completely honest, I took almost a year to make my Essential Materials 01.   I've been working on lighting since P6, because I can't really test materials without having my lighting solid.  So I've done much more work than it probably seems to get where I am.  Every advance Poser made, I just incorporated it into what I was doing. I could make a P7+ and P9+ version of my materials relatively easily because I had only one SSS solution and one fake SSS solution.  But with DS, I'd have to mix exploration with evaluating solutions by different systems.  And change everything the moment one plugin stopped being supported and another took its place.

When you're the type of person to do as many test renders as I do, as many material and light tweaks as I do, you can't get anything done in a system like that.  It's like trying to build a great big wooden house on sand.

I just don't see making DS content without help.  I want to support DS, because I plan to start making scenery and characters in addition to my clothes.  But for that I absolutely need to find someone who'd partner with me on DS versions.  I don't exactly wish I were the type of person who could wouldn't go crazy trying to deal with all the different technologies in DS, because I'm really coming to appreciate both my creative strengths and limitations.  But it does get in the way at times.

LOL :)

If there is one thing I have learnt there is not one set up to rule them all. I can understand for the work you do having a unified / consistent lighting arrangement is essential but it still comes down to the end user.

Fully understand....frustrating :)

I play with surfaces a lot...if you make quality textures with a basic material setup...we will tweak the rest to suit our needs and lighting.
I know who you are, from all of our messages you are a perfectionist, unfortunately the variables in this industry are staggering.
Recommend going against the grain for one product and just create for fun and creativity.
