Pencil portrait of a girl with a cat by LateStarter63 Pencil portrait of a girl with a cat by LateStarter63
Graphite pencil drawing of a girl holding a young cat, on A4 Daler Rowney Airbrush Bristol board.

Pencils: Mars Lumograph (4B), Faber Castell 9000 (6B and 8B), mechanical pencils 0.2mm/2B, 0.3mm/2B and 0.5mm/4B with Ain Stein leads.
Blending: Blending stump from Royal Langnickel and Boldmere,  and paper tissues.
Erasing: WH Smith kneadable eraser, Tombow Mono Zero Ultra-fine eraser, Jakar battery electric eraser.
Indentation:  Royal Langnickel embossing tools.
Photo adjustment using GIMP: Removal of barrel distortion; Cropping to A4 ratio and removal of perspective distortion; Cropping unfinished edges of drawing; Adjustment of histogram.

The photograph which I used as reference for this drawing is from Wikimedia, Girl with a young cat, and is in the Public domain.  The photographer who kindly gave his lovely photo this designation is Joaquim Alves Gaspar

I made extensive use of my 0.2mm/2B mechanical pencil on both the fur and for the skin tone in this drawing.

Here is a link to the drawing process for this drawing:  Girl and Cat Drawing Process by LateStarter63

Thank you, Suezn.  Whenever I see this (it hangs on our living room wall) I too go back in time to when I was a child and I would cuddle our cat.   I can 'feel' the softness of the fur on the cat's legs on the girl's face.

Yes, you see when I was a young girl like her, (a long time ago :) my older sister came home with a kitten. She named the kitten a spanish name, and that name was "Gris" (she was learning spanish in school), which means "Gray."  Unfortunately, a few weeks later my sister was killed in a car accident.  The kitten lay on her bed at night, and I would play with him, cry, etc.  He was a special cat to me.  So you see, it feels good to remember those smaller things that were happening in life and we didn't notice much at the time.  Aside from your artwork being stunning, this one not only is stunning, but truly provoked an endearing memory that means the world to me.  I thank you for that.

Thank you very much and thanks too for the fave.  Wondering how I would tackle the cat's fur made me delay drawing from the lovely reference, but I eventually had to give in and try it.  It resulted in what I feel to be one of my best drawings.

I'm not sure if you've gotten these kinds of comments a lot already, but at first I seriously thought this drawing is a photograph. The love and passion you poured into this is amazing! I love this a lot really. This again shows that, if you pay attention to the small details, the drawing will look even better.

Thank you very much, Rain.  Yes I can confirm that I have received such a comment before.  I am rather obsessed with getting detail in my drawings, but I have no imagination and can only draw literally from reference photos.
Thank you very much for the fave on this drawing and its drawing process.

Hi Clive ..and hope all is well with you .I have been a bit quiet lately time has got me on the run as well..and my days have been filling fast ...I still try to draw but have been a little under the pump with everyday life ..Will have to be careful not to lose the graphite disease I have been infected with ...Yep and time is slipping by and presently on the march so to speak.. Still think you rate as one of the best artistes on D.A. for your so very realistic art work...Yes I am so sorry to put your portrait into the wrong gallery and that has been rectified ..I was a tad careless there...

My internet is still so limited 5 family computers on 50 gbs per month...we run out so often...and there is a glimmer of change coming perhaps in a few months time , word is broadband 200gb's might hit my rural area.. can only say rock on...oh and I have trouble getting around the watchers I have so good luck with the 1700 Plus you have ...well mate will continue to marvel and enjoy your articulate and amazing work and try not to become a watcher only...and will catch up again very soon...Nev

I think that if I had started earlier, I would probably not be drawing now, Christina.
If I had started when I was still working I would not have had sufficient time to devote to it and my progress would probably have been too slow to hold my interest.  I think that I started at just the right time, after I had retired and had enough spare time.

....or your progress would be a priority to you and you would reach sky limit by now :D

aaah Clive... i tell you what; if there is one thing i have learned in my life is that we end up doing the things we wanna do, one way or the other.
Of course there is duty. And day job. And bills to pay. And family. And kids. And grandchildren.
But art, is not something you can put into a box my dear and then hit a button to make it work on demand.
Art is like these rare loves of our life, you know the ones? the ones that happen if we are blessed lucky and they devour us. Completely.
It is the virus running through our blood. It is there with us with such certainty, i know only one thing being next to us with such certainty and that is death.
Art is very similar to this :D

do not underestimate your need for it. I ber if i blindfold you, you will put down with a pencil all the right proportions of a face :giggle:

hah enough chattering going to start dinner here...Checking the Recipe
