Pencil drawing of Tessa

Graphite pencil drawing of Tessa, size A4, drawn on fine surface heavyweight cartridge paper.

Many thanks to Sifu (sifu.deviantart.com/) for allowing drawing from his wonderful picture 'Sheer Beauty' (browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=sifu#/d1v1q6u).

This is the most complex picture I have drawn so far. Apart from the beauty of the picture, I was attracted by the challenge of the folds in the sleeves.

Edit 16 April 2014:  I have very slightly adjusted the photo to approach more closely the tonal range of my drawing, using Zoner Photo Studio software which was not available to me at the time of my original upload.

Wow, this is so incredible!  It amazes me that you can get all those intricate folds in her clothes.  I also love the water drops on her skin.  This to me, is like magic. Truly it is.  I don't even understand how a person can do this.  I really don't.  The light and shadow play and tones of her skin, the hollows and valleys of her neck.  Is it called values, the light and shadow?  Then of course the reflections in the water are incredible too; very subtle but so important.    I don't understand how you know how to do that either and how you consider the light source for the drawing.  I know, more questions.

When I was drawing this, it was I think the first drawing where I momentarily mistook my drawing for the b/w print I was using as my reference.  I have this framed on top of a bookcase in the dining room. I just draw what I see, that is the way you do it (said without Mr Punch's swazzle).

Thank you so much for your appreciation. Before I started I wondered if I had bitten off more than I could chew, but I very glad that I tried.
