If you need help with something in one of my themes I hope that you can find your answer here. I don't always have the time to reply to everything. (Though, sometimes I'm just very lazy too. )
Q: I couldn't find my answer, what do I do now?
A: Read the FAQ again to make sure you didn't miss anything!
Q: I downloaded a RAR/7z file. What's it for?
A: It's a file full with candy! Just get a program like 7-zip (recommended) or WinRAR to see what's inside the file. (You'll usally have to extract the contents to a folder if you're going to use it. It works like a zip-file.)
Q: Why don't you answer my question / When are you online on jabber?
A: Don't ask. I prefer to be creative and create stuff and not waste time on a reply to every single comment or note. It all depends on how I feel.
Q: What languages do you understand?
A: Swedish (main), English (second), Norwegian, Danish (but only written.)
Q: Do you take requests?
A: Maybe. But most of the time I don't.
Q: Can I modify one of your Visual Styles/Foobar themes/Other skin and submit it here on Deviantart?
A: As long as you use the same creative commons license that's showed below the preview image it's fine - creativecommons.org/licenses/b…
This license can be selected when you submit a new deviation. So don't forget to do it.
I would like to see the modification if you submit it, and please link back to the original too.
Visual Style FAQ
Q: How can I use one of your styles?
A: First you need a patched uxtheme.dll file. (If you don't already have one.)
You can find a universal patcher for Windows XP Service Pack 2 here: www.softpedia.com/get/System/O…
You can find a patcher for Windows XP Service Pack 3 RTM version 5512 here: www.softpedia.com/get/System/O…
Patch the file and follow the instructions.
If everything went fine, just doubleclick on the *.msstyles file. Then the display properties window will display the style in the small preview area.
And no, I don't give any support if the patcher don't work. Don't ask!
Q: Can I use your styles in Vista? (Or, can I use your styles in WindowBlinds?)
A: Yes, If you use WindowBlinds. See this youtube clip for more info on what you have to do - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihtP0r…
Q: Will you port your themes to Vista?
A: No. I don't have Vista, and I have no plans on buying it.
Some of my styles however have been ported by PsycoB: psycob.deviantart.com/
Q: My fonts doesn't look the same as yours. What's wrong?
A: Did you install the fonts? Did you turn on ClearType for antialiased text? (Go to Display Properties > Appearance > Effects and select ClearType.)
Q: Some things are misplaced or not visible at all (or looks very strange.) What's wrong?
A: I have no idea, unless several other people reports the same bug. Most likely the problem is at your end. It can be everything from language settings to external 3rd party applications that conflicts with the theme.
It may also not be a bug. It may just be something that I made to make it easier for me. For example: I don't like vertical taskbars and don't style that area. Reason: Vertical taskbars are ugly no matter what you think!
Q: How do you create themes?
GTK/Emerald Theme FAQ
Q: What is a GTK theme?
A: A theme that you can apply in Gnome or xfce4 desktop environments if you use Linux/BSD.
Q: How do I use one of your GTK themes in Gnome/xfce4?
A: Extract the theme folder to the /home/your-username/.themes/ folder (ctrl+h to view hidden folders.) If you don't have a .themes folder you can create one. Then enter the settings for your appearance and choose to customize your current layout. Select the right widgets and metacity theme (If you're on xfce4 you can't use the metacity theme unless you install metacity and replace xfwm4 with it.).
Q: How do I use one of your emerald themes? (Make sure you have compiz-fusion and emerald installed first.)
A 1: First you need to install emerald.
Open a terminal and paste this line - sudo apt-get install emerald libemeraldengine0
Then go to System > Preferences > Emerald Theme Manager and select import to import the emerald file. You may need to start emerald too, push alt+f2 and type this: emerald --replace. If you want to go back to the default Window decorator, type: gtk-window-decorator --replace.
A 2: If the theme didn't come with and *.emerald file. Put the emerald theme in /home/your-username/.emerald/themes/
Open the emerald theme manager and select the theme from the list.
Tip: More detailed instructions on how to install emerald can be found here: www.webupd8.org/2009/03/ubuntu…
Q: How do I use the start-here.png "startbutton" icon?
A: Put it in your current icon theme's Places folder and backup+remove any icons that are named start-here.svg/png. Your icon theme should be located in /home/username/.icons/.
If you're using an OS default icon theme you'll need to open the gconf-editor and select to use a custom application icon in the applications-menu.
After all this - Terminal > killall gnome-panel to refresh the panels.
IMPORTANT: My configs don't work in foobar2000 0.9.5.3 or later.
Get an earlier version of foobar2000 here: www.filehippo.com/download_foo…
Q: I downloaded one of your PanelsUI setups, but it doesn't look like it's supposed to. What's wrong?
A: Did you get all the plugins/fonts required? (Latest versions of all plugins too?). If things looks a bit misplaced, try to resize the window.
A: Did you follow the installation instructions exactly? Use these instructions: lassekongo83.deviantart.com/ar…
Q: I miss an extra function. Will you add it?
A: Not unless I have any use for it myself.
Q: Can you zip your foobar folder and email it to me? I can't get it to work.
A: NO! Don't ask.
Q: Can PanelsUI display embedded cover art from tags?
All my other stuff FAQ
Q: When I try to download one of your wallpapers I get a blank.png file. What's wrong?
A: You are using an old crappy browser called Internet Explorer 6. Just get a modern browser like Opera or Firefox.
Q: Can I use one of your wallpapers/art in one of my art projects?
A little mini-tutorial on theme creation for Windows XP and Gnome GTK.
How to create adblocking filters for removing undesired deviants from showing up while you browse certain categories. This will work in most adblocking extensions. I personally recommend the uBlock Origin extension for this purpose. How to filter a user Click on the uBlock Origin extension icon > Click on the top bar to get into the settings. Go to My Filters. Add a new line for every user you want to filter and place the user name or a part of the user name within the "". Adblock filters are case sensitive. This will also work with title keywords. Examples: deviantart.com##SPAN[href*="xxhorribleusernamexx"] deviantart.com##SPAN[href
Updated: So once again themes break after a major upgrade. It looked ok in the early beta stage, but now I have to look over a lot of shit again. :/
Betatest Zukitwo and Zukiwi for GTK3.8
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~lassekongo83/zukitwo/gnome3.8/files Click view revision and download tarball. Note: The gnome-shell theme is far from finished, and if something looks like adwaita it's not a bug, it's just me who haven't changed it yet. :p If you find any bugs let me know here or on the launchpad page. (Screenshots are helpful when reporting a bug.) I hope to get something released near the Gnome 3.8 release this time. ;)
Can't come up with a title so I'll just say derp.
Compiz is dead. Metacity is going to die. Canonical has to find a replacement WM for Unity or shove up the development of compiz to someone else. Wayland may replace X11 (and I hope it will be good once it do.) Shit happens as usual. (Even good shit.) I'm thinking about abandoning Metacity support for my themes too. My next theme that I've started working on is not going to have a Metacity theme as I see no point in supporting it when I'm not using it and when it's going to be abandoned. A quote from the musical artist Pogo: "I don't make art for you, I make art for myself." :p In the end I just get tired of trying to fix things for stuff th
