Writing this to let whomever reads this know I won't be coming back here again in a long time. I had an amazing time here, but I moved on to other media like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Twitter etc. like most of us I guess. I thank the dA creators for this platform, but can't believe the lay out is still ugly :). 10 years ago I created this profile, when I kind of just started as an artist and when I came up with my name Jangojim. I had no idea of the amazing journey it would take me on. It pushed me to get better as an artist, to grow. I got feedback and appreciation of others. It gave me a place to feel at ease. That meant a lot for me in a time where I didn't know what I was doing, doodling in sketchbooks.

It is pretty surreal that I can say that I am a professional artist living solely of my artwork today. Truly a dream come true. I have done really really fun and cool projects over the years, way too many to list here like making comics for Vice, murals for Converse, I started doing animation for tv and commercials, editorial illustrations for magazines and newspapers, I even designed a painted wooden stage for a Belgian music festival last year. I am working on my own animated series for international tv channels called Elvis & Benny. I also started a mural collective with friends from Brussels and we are doing big murals all over the world.

I grew as a person, I became me. I used to be shy with low self-esteem. Growing as an artist helped me to grow as a person. Deciding to become a professional artist took me a long time, especially because most people around me told me it is too difficult. It wasn't and still isn't easy, but who wants to go for easy? Making your dreams come true is hard work, but my passion for creating stuff is like an unstoppable engine. If I don't do it I become unhappy. I am a very happy man right now, because I am doing what I like and feel proud of it, but also because I'm excited about all the adventures ahead of me. So much is possible if you want it and go for it. ( Sorry for the cheesiness here. My future self probably triple-vomits if he'll ever re-read this. )

The most important thing about Deviantart though, is the community feeling. I had wonderful conversations, discussions, made so many online friends. It was wonderful to see everyone grow over the years. And I am happy to say that some of them are still friends and I got to meet them in real life several times: Jack Teagle, Luke Pearson, Alex Chiu. True illustration/comic masters and supernice guyz. Their work is internationally known right now. Check it out. High on my meeting in real life-list is dA member Lancekatre. Check out his adventures as pancake artist Dan the Pancake Man.

Anways hope you are all having a great time!

Please vote for me in this cool contest that can win me a ticket to "Burning Man Festival". Urban Crafts, a Belgian project that brings together creative youngsters, made a silly movie about me last summer where I talk about my comics ( in Dutch though ). Just click on the link and vote. Many thanks XXX

Hi all,

here's my (apparently) annual journal. I just don't visit this place that much anymore, although I'm still amazed how much I've learned by posting here and how many friends I made over the years that I now met in real life in the USA, UK and beyond - many of them have become succesful professional artists now - so I think this place is still relevant. But nowadays, Im more on Facebook, twitter, tumblr, that kind of stuff. The design of this website is still so damn ugly and that makes it less appealing to come back.

Still, for those interested small update on the highlights of my past year and upcoming nearby future. Some happy surprises came up.

- learned a lot of new animation skills by doing several big commercials that appeared on tv and internet.
- got to do my first big editorial job making a ton of illustrations for the big regional newspaper.
- developed an idea for an animated short series for kids and together with a wonderful producer now this is actually going to happen. Crazy. Writing about 30 episodes right now. More about it later.
- started working as a screenwriter on a live action comedy/drama series for Belgian national tv. I honestly never thought I would one day be a screenwriter, but I love it. It's a big challenge, but it's also great for my storytelling skills. I'm part of a lovely writer's team and we laugh a lot.
- I went to London with my girlfriend and had a blast at ELCAF festival by Nobrow. I met a ton of artist friends and other people that I admire. Went to the Welcome collection with the ever lovely Luke Pearson and others. Got invited to weird beach town Brighton by illustrator Edward Cheverton and had such a great time there.
- I went to the south of Sweden to relax and get inspired. I met up with great artist EKTA. Fantastic guy. We did a mural together in the city of Göteborg. I'll post it soon.
- I did a solo exhibition at the park library in antwerp and was part of several group exhibitions in antwerp : After Six Festival ( music+arts ), A group show at the Designcenter of Antwerp, Free to play ( an indie game festival ), Fabrikage Festival ( music+arts ), A one day pop up exhibition by a local poet and performer, A group show at Walls gallery in Amsterdam.
- I also started an epic duo exhibition concept with my friend and great artist Anton van Steelandt: The Jangton Brothers. It's a retrospective art show about 2 fictitious directors. We are planning to do more shows were we reveal more about their work. It includes film posters, props, masks, costumes, pictures, footage, merchandise, etc. We already showed 12 posters in october. I'm very excited about this project.
- and also cool: my girlfriend and I went living together in Antwerp. I love it. We have a cat and a crossbow with sucker darts.

last few months were a bit heavy due to a lot of things coming together all at once, but I'm getting things organized. Definitely looking forward to the end of the year as my girlfriend and I decided to celebrate New Year's Eve in Reykjavik, Iceland ! Can't wait to get wasted in the snow and freeze my ass off.

Hi dA Friends !

I'm always bad at updating my journals and this is no exception.

in short. The past 7 months I worked on a comedy tv show with my 2 best friends that will air on Belgian TV in November. It suddenly happened when a nice producer remembered us from years ago pitching an idea for a program. And we suddenly went on to make it. We wrote it ourselves, acted in it ourselves for a large part and I did some animation for it as well. it was a crazy adventure and I'm superexcited about it. Can't show anything yet, though.

next week I'll be in New York from september 6th till the 18th.
On holiday with my girlfriend. But I will be visiting some local artists and do a mural in Brooklyn together with great Brooklyn based artist Paul Windle > www.paulwindle.com/.
Really looking forward to that ! I always dreamt of doing a mural in NYC.

if there are dA friends in NY let me know ! I might have the time to say hi.

what have you been all up to ? have fun !

My best friends and directors Adil el Arbi and Bilall Fallah won the first prize in the short film competition at the Ghent Film Festival.
The biggest movie festival in Belgium. I'm superproud of them and also because I was part of the crew.

Last weekend I met talented Parisian illustrator Emmanuel Espinasse and his girlfriend in Brussels. Fun times !
We even saw STEVEN SPIELBERG ! He was there for the world premiere of Tintin. Pretty surreal.
