Description
The g in Lyngen is softened roughly into y from the English "yes".
The name of the mountain range is pronounced roughly as "lynn-yen".
This time I decided to take a couple of shots from the ferry as well. Took some cleaning up of spots from the window, but not bad for the given conditions. I really like the outlook on Lyngsfjella from the fjord.
View from the Breivik ferry along its course to the Lyngen Alps peninsula.
This is south, towards the opening of Sørfjoden into its parent of Ullsfjorden.
The mountains on the left are of the Southern massif of the Lyngen Alps:
On the right edge, the steep slope that is visible is the mountainside of Fornesfjellet.
Behind it, the snowy one is Storfjellet with Stortinden (1 473 m) and Tigertinden (1 492 m) behind it.
The high hills in front of it are Durmålsaksla (the higher) and Moskofjellet and are the foothills of Durmålsfjellet.
Durmålsfjellet itself is the epic massif with the pyramid-like slopes, that touches the clouds above.
The nearest of the peaks is Litle Durmålstinden (1 132 m), then is Store Durmålstinden (1 443 m).
Behind Durmålsfjellet and Storfjellet the glacier central part of Lyngsfjellan is slightly visible.
Behind Durmålsfjellet to the right, is a branch of the great mountain Jiehkkevárri.
Further away is the distant massif Lakselvtindane, and more and more distant mountains.
The Lyngen peninsula is a covered by labyrinth of massive, epic mountains.
The mountains on the right are from the Tromsø peninsula, down along Sørfjorden's west side.
The nearest one is Nakkefjellet, the peak Karltinden (1 206 m) is partially obscured by clouds.
These nearly vertical cliff outcrops is what the mountain's whole range is like on the east side.
Behind it, in the distance, the very steep slope is the side of the mountain Rieppefjell.
Further away, straight through the mouth of the fjord, is Njoskefjellet.
