Description
Photo of myself with my other best friend, hehe.
Seems like I made a habit of holding art up in my sta.sh for a while before posting, because these days writing descriptions feels kinda demanding. So I'll be a bit shorter. After the previous besties portrait, this was the next logical step and I'd had it in mind for a while. What I couldn't figure for the longest time was composition and exactly what I wanted out of it. I knew it must be a dark setting, with the Northern Lights behind us, obviously, but other than that my mind was blank for a long time.... what would best capture the essence of our friendship. The answer is actually so very logical - what we're best at is enhancing each other's powers and making magick together with it. I believe no one is better at doing that for me than Jayme and I also believe I do it very well for him. So that's what I did. Then what better way to portray our joint spiritual force than us conjuring a ball of Hellfire together under the splendour of the Northern Lights.
Well.... figuring that out was the easy part. Of course I come up with a light-wise absolutely crazy composition with multiple light sources of different color and powerful vibrance. Of course. My life would be boring if I allowed it get easy. So.... this took a loooong time to render, some learning from mistakes, some trying to find the right way, but in the end all I've learned from him about light distribution really helped - and that's also fitting for this artwork in partcular. Halfway through I had also already realized this would have been WAY easier and more intuitive to draw had I started it on a black paper sheet. But I can't do that because you see, I drew the first friends portrait on a white sheet and OCD dictates I continue the series the way I started it. Lapis Logic
However it also served me well (besides that it put me through so much additional trouble) because on black paper I may have been able to define the light better, but I never would have been able to draw it so bright and vibrant, pencil on black paper just has its physical limitations.
So all in all, I am glad I took it this way and I am quite hapyp with the result. Jayme loved it, which makes me even happier. Now I'd love to hand it over to him personally, and hopefully I'll get the chance rather sooner.... we'll see. Until then, we keep empowering each other from a distance and keep the magick fo the Northern Lights and the power of the Hellfire in our souls. And also, happy new year once again, my friend
