Description
The g in Lyngen is softened roughly into y from the English "yes".
The name of the mountain range is pronounced roughly as "lynn-yen".
Our next stop was much further into the fjord, nearly at the end, at a place we had been before 2 years back. Here the road is elevated on a steep slope, but dropping down it gets us right at the shore, at a place that feels serene and enjoyable despite its proximity to the road. Once again, the mountains on the other side tower silently above us, dark and beautiful against the epic skies.
View from the coast of Kjosen (Isfjord) at Heimkjær, south across the fjord stretch.
Kjosen or Isfjord as we call it, is a branch of Ullsfjorden, between the two parts of Lyngen.
The mountains on the other side are of the Southern Lyngsfjella (Lyngen Alps).
The one on the right is Rødbergtinden (1 320 m), behind in clouds is Fortholttinden (1 469 m).
Behind it, the mountainside visible is of Store Fornestinden (1 477 m), part of Fornesfjellet.
The one on the left is Rørnesfjellet (1 255 m), this small triangular part is called Kammen.
Between is the deep valley Rødbergdalen through which runs the river Rukselváhjohka.
Down the valley is Kvalvikdalsfjellet, its front part (1 218 m) and central peak (1 358 m).
