Description
I didn't draw sceneries as much this time around in Norway, I didn't have the energy, but there were a few occasions when the drive was too strong, the inspiration too beautiful, to ignore. This was one of them.
One morning (that is to say, around 11-12 a.m.) I came to the living room and went about my morning window tour to find a magnificent view of the entire summit part of Finnkollen shrouded in rolling clouds. The winds were high and tangible even from inside, the sea was uncharacteristically choppy for Kattfjorden, which is so shielded that it usually looks like a lake even if it's a tentacle of the Atlantic Ocean.... meanwhile the clouds were racing through the sky, some of them having the time of their life (or at least giving me the time of my life) rolling down the mountainside from the Finnkollen summit like an avalanche or a waterfall of thick mist. In fact, the wind was so high, the motion so pronounced, that it did look like a mist-waterfall. I had only seen that in adorable pictures and I had certainly never seen it in motion, I just had to paint it. Of course, the motion making it harder to capture into a still image. But I tried.
Morissa appeared later. I decided to be adding siderians in those paintings this time around - although, there is other wildlife around as well of course. Remember the fox. But because it's really the landscape that is the main character once again, strictly speaking I wasn't telling a story to begin with. But felt like drawing Morissa again, on this here remote shore, on this turbulent but beautiful autumn day. She came to visit all these years later.... And now we have a bit of a story as well.
The additional benefit is that there isn't that much art of Morissa in the first place for now. I've always loved her, no concrete reason, just a vibe. I'd love to give her some more art in the future as well, but for now here's one by FelisGlacialis as well, from her youth:
Maybe she was reminiscing those old days as she peered over the fjord, to the beautiful light of the setting Sun on this turbulent but beautiful autumn day. The light and colors (as even I realized much later) bears a subtle semblance....
Not much more to say than this. I focused on the colors and light - and the cloudfall of course - more than on the rest of the scenery. I am very pleased with the colors indeed, even if there's more to learn, and even if in terms of perspective I have yet much to practice. But I'm learning, every painting teaches me more. The cloudfall turned out well though.
Reference and creative rights for Morissa belongs to FelisGlacialis
