Autumn woodlands

Description

The ø (resp. oe) is not an o, it actually doesn't have an English analogue.
It's roughly a combination between the vowels in birch and book.

The next day we had decided to go north, travel across the mountains of northern Kvaløya, into the valley of Lyffjorddalen and climb another small mountain called Trehørningen. The weather was gloomy and rainy, and we had wettened ourselves a lot the previous day, so for a while we were pondering whether we really want go for a longer hike. There was a possible window between the rains in a suitable time of the day, but in Northern Norway in autumn one quickly develops the habit to expect rain at all times. Still, we decided that we want to go around and enjoy the sceneries the valley offers - which Jayme told me is quite very much worth it - and that if we detect increasing chances of rain, we can always go back sooner and simply not make it to the top. I cannot be happier that we decided so and we went to Trehørningen. Not only the little rain we encountered didn't really bother us, but the heavy clouds it came from made the sceneries really spectacular that day.
Lyfforddalen is a very picturesque place. Huddled between the larger mountains of Kjølen from the south and the smaller scattered ones from the north, it is a forested valley with a prospect towards the northernmost part of Kaldfjorden, near where it opens towards the ocean, and with a view towards the picturesque mountains on the western side of Kaldfjorden and the distant, just as picturesque island of Vengsøya. The valley - a very forested place by the arctic standards - is wondrous at this time of the year, brimming with the fiery colors of the low arctic forest. As soon as we turned north to cross the mountain the woodland embraced us and on the other side of the tunnel leading to Lyffjorddalen we were in an autumn fairytale already. The valley has a very different vibe and feeling from any other place I had seen so far. Probably because it is sheltered by the mountains - and yet turned to the Gulfstreamed ocean - it is probably warmer and yet plentily humid, providing living space for a forest that kind of which one seldom sees so far into the north.

View to the west from the southern slope of Trehørningen with the road throgh Lyfjorddalen.
In the distance, part of the northern Kaldfjorden is visible, with the small Lyfjorden bay.
The large mountain to the left is Storefjellet (560 m), the small hill to the right of the bay - Klubben (109 m).
Beyond Kaldfjorden, to the right is Rundkollen (522 m), and in the valley that separates it from the rest is the road to Grøtfjorden.
The other mountains are respectively Storholten (677 m) to the right and Orvasstinden (980) to the left, partially behind Storefjellet.

02.10.2018, Trehørningen (283 m).
