I guess they mean that they saw Vaan's video about "This is not art" (Pretty popular). And they had forgotten Vaan's channel name, so they couldn't watch the video. And oh, by fine coincidence they passed across this and realized it was the art, the truth they were searching for.

2. Ich hatte nie wirklich Vertrauen in Kunstschulen. Egal ob Uni, Akademien, etc.

Ganz egal, welche Stilrichtung man bevorzugt.

Manga and Pretty pictures are my favorite kind of art! And the only kind of art I give attention to. those professors are just biased or prejudiced. I'm biased the opposite way lol but that's why I'm not a professor! And it's definitely ART!

Gibt halt immer andere Ansichten was Kunst ist, aber sonst wäre das ja auch nicht so vielfältig (;

But yeah, it's really shitty how teachers or in your case professors call obvious good art bad or just dislike art, because they don't have any experience with it.

I actually just watched your video a few minutes ago. I'm sorry that professionals that are in a form of the field you'd like to go into (being a teacher) said such judgmental, and uninformed things to you about your art. I've shown my family your work, as well as my professors, and they all find your work beautiful and artistic.

It seems that many artists that pursue teaching have a critical and grayed out world view especially when they see a skilled or focused student that wants to make a difference in the art world.  It's really a shame that it is that way within the art community and among teaching professionals but I personally feel you'll be an amazing teacher, Not that you aren't already. Just watching your speed paints has taught me so much about technique and  brush handling as well as facial anatomy for portraits and such.

Thank you so much, for all that you do for the community, and the inspiration you bring to people aspiring to be a driving force in the art world.

I often regret that I didn’t study art. But sometimes when I hear opinions like yours I’m glad I spared myself some torture. :D

I wrote a whole page in Word about my opinion on the matter. But people might end up like tl;dr, so here is the *cough* "short" version:

1. For me art doesn’t have a concrete definition. In my personal opinion artists in the visual "non-commercial" art field are often trying too hard to make it look or sound like art. But as long as no one gets physically hurt against their own free will during the making of the artwork-in-question I’m open for discussion.

2. I have a lot of good friends with a formal education in visual art like painting and sculpture (one of them being a current or former teacher at the Bauhaus-Univerity Weimar I think) and we have had a lot of good times doing art together. But when one of them starts talking too philosophically about art I usually tune them out because it’s like blahblahblah for me. Comic artists are way easier to talk to. :)

3.
Nevertheless one should always consider even the oddest and annoying art or technique as a possible source of inspiration for one’s own work. Two examples:

- Neil Gaiman’s “Sandman”: abstract painting styles and techniques à otherworldly, not-quite-explainable depiction of Dream and the Endless (the series wouldn’t be as famous without this I believe)

- Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty”: medieval art (sorta abstract as well) à background and environment paintings paintings

My fingers are itching to write more. Arrrg!
Would really like to hear more about your opinion! Continue with your wonderful art, we can see that you love what you do! :D

Your work is beautiful :)

I listened to your video, and I'm sorry you had to go through that. After personally experiencing similar reactions to my own work, it drove me to abandon my choice to study art at uni.

I love both traditional and manga art, unfortunately while I studied my A levels that was not the sort of work my teacher wished to see. I was often ridiculed for the manga I draw in my spare time and my classical style for my projects were seen as “Airy fairy” (exactly their words). My teacher wished to see me do the type of work that is seen as the current establishment in the art world, (abstract), but that didn’t reflect me in any way.

In the end after much fighting and threats of being thrown off the course, I got my grade, but it left me dreading the thought of going through three years of it again at uni.

It’s been roughly six years since then and I’m happy to have continued drawing, now even selling the work, which my teacher told me was unsellable.

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one to have had such an experience and that you persevere to keep to your style of art. It’s you and it’s wonderful, that’s what art is about, creating work you love!  :iconfoxyayzplz:
