"Don't mind him," said Zane, the sound of the respirator louder now.
The other Wake smirked at Wake.
"He's Mr. Scratch," said Zane. "Your friends will meet him when you're gone."

Mr. Scratch is a trollface, I agree with most people here on that.  But Mr. Scratch happens to be one of the names of the Devil.  The Devil is posing as Alan Wake.

:icontrollfaceplz: Is Mr. Scratch...

this is a REALLY good drawing though, and I loved this game <3
I didn't really know who mr. Scratch was, but I knew it was him when I saw him in the game, thanks to your wonderful fanart of him :)

I really wanna play Alan Wake's American Nightmare with my dad, once we finish the DLC for Alan Wake :D

Ah, thanx! =D I thought it was Zane who trolled us all with Mr. Scratch. Well, he's the dark side of Alan and he replaced him in this real world. He's a real devil, handsome and smart =D You'll love AW'sAN for sure. Many people don't understand it's just a spinn-off, not the 2nd part, but it's not! Very lovely.

Hold up you mean there is no official "Alan Wake 2"? Fffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuqqqqqqqq! Dx I'm sure I will :) my dad and I will play it once we finish the DLC Why is his name Mr. Scratch? (my dad says its the wound on his head but I think it's cause he looks like an evil high psyco guy XD)

Yep, you got it right. There's no Alan Wake 2. Only this lovely little arcade :)
His name is unpronounceable. Not in any human language since he's a creature from the other side. There sounded kinda scratch when Zane introduced him to Alan. That's why we use to call him Mr. Scratch. And you're right, he's an evil high psycho guy :)

There's a split second moment where you see a Mr. Scratch expression on Alan's face when he holds the door blocking Hartman's escape from the Dark Presence at Cauldron Lake Lodge. That was definitely a moment where you think maybe Alan isn't quite who or what we think he is. A similar developments in the Dark Place have the same effect.

Of course they also bring out further confusion by implying that Zane has nothing to do with the existence of Mr. Scratch and did not write the page Alan found in the shoebox in the Well-Lit Room. Unless I misunderstood both of those events. There isn't fiction or reality where Alan Wake is... they are seamless or so that's what I got.

Still dead on likeness to the first appearance of Mr. Scratch - there he looks a lot like Alan Wake.

Yep, you're absolutely right. My thoughts about Mr. Scratch (someone without name, actually) are that he's a good guy. Night Springs (Nightmare) is just an episode about something paranormal in Alan's mind. Have you heard of "Anansi Boys" by Neil Geiman? I feel something of this kind about this. After all, I don't believe Zane can be bad. And Scratchy is his creation, after all.

I have read some Neil Gaiman - not Anansi Boys - though I imagine it might have something to do with the Anansi Indians or about the mythical Coyote aka Trickster.

Scratch is the embodiment of all things Wake believes he is not anymore except the will to live life as they see fit or that they deserve after everything they have done.

In Anansi Boys the main character was divided into two different persons. He didn't know about it, he thought he found a brother. Well, that brother wasn't a psycho but the rest is very familiar =D

Sounds very familiar so I imagine its possible Sam Lake is well read on such tales or at least familiar with the Anansi legends.

If you ever The Prestige, there is also a twin concept at work both in the frame story and in the flashbacks to the ancestors of the characters in the fram story. The Prestige film was based on the novel.

Yes, I love that movie. =D In Anansi Boys the main character was shy, kinda lazy... he didn't appreciate what he had. And then his brother appeared, he took his life, 'cos he *had the balls* =D They were two parts of a whole-hearted persone and the only way to win was to work together. I hope we'll see something like this in the 2nd AW game. After all, Alan only knows Mr. Scratch took his place. And nothing more.

All depends on them making a second game.

Nightmare had the kind of ending where you almost thought this is it, but then I thought this was too short and there's so much else to do. So he defeated Scratch this time... what if this isn't the last time they cross paths. What other obstacles are still in play keeping Alan from crossing back into reality.

AN was too short 'cos it supposed to be an episode of Night Springs =D Many people thought it was the 2nd game. I can't wait to see it. But we'll have to wait...

In this game you never know what has really happened. And that's why we love it so much!
Amazing work (especially the expression)!

You're right =D
Thanks a lot. I gave him a real expression like Mr. Scratch has. In the original scene from the game it's different.
