Character Sheet: Yuna Ryumi

Another one for the Naruverse project, recently renamed Yamabushi JBS.

Name: Yuna Ryumi
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 61 kg (135 lbs)

Mother: Setsuko, 55, is a very loving mother. Although diminutive in size, she is considered to be a master of White Dragon Style Ninjutsu. In her childhood, Ryumi always as though she were letting her mother down because of her difficulty with ninjutsu, but Setsuko was always very supportive. She would tell Ryumi that the dragon spirit inside of her simply had not awakened yet.

Father: Katsuo, 57, is a proud father who loves to gloat of his children’s accomplishments. He and Ryumi have always had a very open relationship, and he tells her that as long she follows her heart and tries her hardest he will always be proud of her. More than anything, he worries about her happiness, especially the fact that she has turned away so many suitors in the village. He fears that she will never find her true love and is constantly meddling in her social life.

Siblings: Josu, 17, is a kenjutsu prodigy. He is seven years junior to Ryumi but still managed to graduate the kenjutsu dojo in the same year. He loves his sister, but of course there is some rivalry. It especially annoys him that even with his perfection of technique he has never been able to defeat her in a sparring match.

Personality: Most of her peers know her as the anal retentive workaholic who focuses only her ninja duties. She spends each morning training. She never jokes during missions. She rarely even smiles. Despite her cold nature, there is a softer side to this kunoichi. She loves pampering herself as much as she loves training. Spa days are a must. Aside from that, Ryumi also has one other quirk. The nobles and elders try to keep it as much of a secret as possible, but everyone in the village knows that she is quite boy crazy. Specifically, she has a thing for the younger shinobi, especially her brother’s friends. In fact, she possesses two bingo books… one for her assassination targets and one full of pictures of her favorite cute shinobi.

Emotionally, Ryumi is very calm and collected. She doesn’t panic, doesn’t like to raise her voice, and exudes a slight arrogance that comes from her incredible fighting abilities. She rarely loses her cool, but it severely ticks her off when her peers slack off or joke during missions. She’s likely to hit the offender in the head with the hilt of her sword. The only time she really loses composure is when she gets giddy and flirty with her brother’s friends.

Ki Nature: Fire

Fighting Style: Ryumi is adequate at hand-to-hand combat, but is extraordinarily skilled in kenjutsu. She uses an offense-oriented style that focuses on attacking the opponent with blinding fast charges and lightning quick slashes. Ryumi also relies on her clan's famous Dragon Style Ninjutsu. Ryumi's techniques are especially destructive due to her ability to release large amounts of ki at will, but her lack of ki control often leaves her drained depending on how powerful the attack was.

Techniques:

- Red Dragon Rain: Ryumi thrusts her sword into the earth, casting hundreds shards into the air, then uses her chakra to melt them into a rain of molten lava. This is her favorite ninjutsu technique.

- Red Dragon Claw: Ryumi channels her chakra into her sword, causing it glow red hot. She then attacks with a lunging slash that burns through most objects. Dodging backward is also dangerous because the swing of the blade releases the chakra in the form of a long, slicing fireball.

- Red Dragon Assault: This is just a variation of the Dragon Claw Jutsu. Instead of attacking with a single powerful slash, Ryumi keeps her distance and uses smaller slashes produce a storm of fireballs. While these are weaker attacks, they require less chakra. This attack is most useful for cornering quick opponents.

- Red Dragon Sphere Bomb (Ultimate Technique): Ryumi leaps high into the air, focusing all her chakra toward her core. She then dives at the earth with a powerful sword thrust, releasing her chakra at the moment of impact, using it to actually ignite the air as it is pushed away from the impact zone. This creates a shockwave of fiery ripples that scorches everything within its blast radius, including above and below Ryumi. Depending how solid the ground is, a giant crater is usually left. Although the move is very destructive, it requires so much chakra that Ryumi is left exhausted and unable to move afterward. In fact, she was warned that she could kill herself if she uses the move at less than 100% health.

Biography:
Background: At first, she struggled at ninjutsu. Unable to learn her clan’s famous ninjutsu style, she focused fervently on developing her sword skills until she became superior to all of her peers, even her younger brother who was considered a kenjutsu prodigy. She graduated her dojo at the top of class, earning the sacred Tosseken.

At first Ryumi used her skills as part of the assassination squad, a duty suited to her abilities since she was able to kill most enemies in a single sword draw. She racked up quite a list of successful missions, and earned the dubious nickname of “the Boy-Crazy Assassin.” Her skills sharpened until she was without a rival in the category of kenjutsu. Eventually, Ryumi was assigned to a roster spot among the village elite imperial guard. Considered to be the most powerful warriors of the village, these ninja are required to take an oath that prohibits them from engaging an enemy unless it is in defense of the village or part of a mission vital to the village’s defense. Ryumi became the centerpiece of the unit, but she hated the restraints of her duty.

One night, Ryumi’s unit responded to a threat alarm on the eastern side of the village. Ryumi reached the area first only to find her brother Josu already engaged in combat with two unmarked shinobi. Ryumi lept to intervene but was interrupted by a third, even more imposing shinobi. She used every technique in her arsenal but was no match for mysterious foe, but just as he was about deliver the fatal blow, something inside of her clicked and she unleashed the power of her Red Dragon Style Ninjutsu for the first time. The stunned and wounded enemy retreated, but by then there were no signs of the other two intruders or her brother. The next day, against the village elders’ orders, Ryumi renounced her oath of defense, once again adopting the assassin’s code and leaving the village to search for her brother.

Fighting Style: In combat, Ryumi tends to rely on her expert sword skills to dispatch her foes. Using the Yuna-style kenjutsu, she has been able to kill many of foes without much of a struggle. Speed and aggression are her greatest strengths. She only resorts to the ever destructive Red Dragon Style Jutsu when the enemy is too strong to be subdued through lesser means. She also uses her jutsus to dispose the most despicable of her targets. Her favorite way to finish them is with her Red Dragon Rain Jutsu.

The Yuna Clan:
History: The origin of the Yuna Clan is a story shrouded in romance and chance encounter. According to legend, Yuna Tosei, an orphan-turned-sword smith from the Land of Waves, set out to kill a vicious dragon demon in order to bring honor to his craft. Tosei traveled to where the dragon was last reported to appear, but was attacked on the way by a young kunoichi. She beat Tosei to a pulp, but he would concede. Finally tired of the battle, the kunoichi then summoned a giant dragon to devour Tosei. Although scared to death, Tosei vowed to honor his family by either defeating the dragon or fighting to a heroic death. The kunoichi, impressed with the young shinobi’s resolve, decided to spare his life. She took him back to her village and treated his wounds. The mysterious kunoichi introduced herself as Mitsu and explained that it was her job to protect her village’s sacred jade dragon statue from robbers. Tosei introduced himself and explained his quest. Mitsu, who had never left the village, who fascinated with his tales, and Tosei was likewise smitten with his new acquaintance.

Tosei stayed at the village for two weeks while he regained his strength (he took quite a beating) before leaving to return to the Land of Waves. Before departing, he begged Mitsu to come with him and start a family. She resisted at first, but she had fallen for Tosei and had already desired to leave the village to see what there was to the rest of the world. The couple returned to the Land of Waves, and that was the beginning of the Yuna clan. Since the dragon demon never appeared after Tosei’s return, many people thought he had slain it. It brought him much honor and his swords were in high demand. Today, the Yuna clan is very wealthy and respected.

Yuna-Style Kenjutsu: The Yuna clan’s special sword arts are also descended from Tosei. Eventually, he and Mitsu amassed a rather large family. In a desire to protect his family, Tosei vowed to become as strong a warrior as possible. He practiced and practiced until he had honed his wild and aggressive style into efficient fighting style. Combined with the superior swords that Tosei created, his unique kenjutsu became one of the most powerful styles in the world.

Dragon-Style Ninjutsu: These are the ninja arts handed down from the matriarch of the Yuna clan. When Mitsu fled the village with Tosei, she brought with her the village’s sacred teachings. According to the philosophy of the village, the dragon is the true embodiment of of a person’s soul when it is no longer restrained by fear or doubt. Through meditation, fortitude, and training, one could awaken the power of the dragon within them, gaining immense powers in the process. The color of the dragon, however, depends on the person’s chakra nature. Ryumi, a fire user, has developed Red Dragon Style Jutsu, whereas her brother, a water user, has developed an equally impressive Blue Dragon Style Jutsu. Supposedly, there was a master who could use the mysterious Black Dragon Style Jutsu, but that is an unconfirmed myth.
