Our Lady of Siluva

In the year 1569 the parish church in the town of Siluva, Lithuania was seized and confiscated. Before the seizure, the pastor and a few parishioners placed a picture of the Blessed Virgin Mary as well as the deed to the church in a chest which, later, was buried.
In 1608, some children who had been playing in the fields returned to their homes and informed their parents that they had seen a woman, standing on a rock, weeping. The parents investigated; they also saw the lady. They asked why she was crying, the lady replied,"Formerly, my Son was adored and honored in this place. Now they sow seed and cultivate the land." A blind man claimed he knew where a chest had been buried forty years earlier. Upon approching the spot, his sight returned. These occurrences led people to firmly believe they had witnessed an apparition of Mary and many returned to the faith.
