I don't have a personal account, but I do work with 3 or 4 models on a regular basis creating content for them (video and photography).

One thing they all say is that the hardest part is the time spent advertising them selves and getting people to visit their site. It's all in the marketing.

Yeah I don't doubt it. That becomes a full time job.

I haven't.

Are you considering to create a Patreon account?

It's confusing as to how to proceed. I think one things that has me nervous is the filling out of tax information online. That has me sketched out. :/ I can track and handle my own.

Hm, well... what kept me from Patreon is that first, you do commit to do things regularly and second, you might bind yourself to a userbase and do stuff they want to see (at least those are two points I see done often, I don't know if it is obligatory or just the way people do it). And you have to get people there, first. I wasn't as far as all the tax-stuff then, I so-to-say stopped before that ^^

They have an option that people can support or pay by creation so you aren't obligated to push stuff out on a schedule.
Yeah, I got sketched out on the personal information where is it being held? Is it secure? How secure? How has my information? Are you selling it? I don't want this to be a FB error...

I'm not sure if they display other terms to you - but due to the new (one year old) regulations in the EU, they should have to tell you all that :) . Maybe they do tell you what applies to you. You could look up their Terms of Service - I think it should be in there. Not all (like: where exactly and how secure), but much of it. Or so I hope.

I know with patreon they make you select a region so it may be based on region?

Not yet. Considering it for my mmo project later on, but not as a individual artist myself.

Sounds good, let me know how it goes okay, I'm rather curious as to how people make a go of it.

It takes a bit of work, but worth sticking with as having regular money as helped me budget money for artists on a regular basis.

How were you able to get patreon to work if you don't mind me asking? I went through and the only reason I didn't publish a page was because I wasn't sure what I had to offer, since I offer advice and other things free anyway.

It's been a bit trial and error but had a few ideas. For example, I worked on an animation pilot and video game idea that didn't come off, but it did mean we have some stuff that we could give as bonuses.

For me personally I think it helps to have items that are only available via the Patreon. For example, I'll do a video on a Monday on Youtube for everyone, and then on Friday do a video for the Patreon backers.

In terms of promotion, it is that fine line of pushing it without being too spammy, which is the case for a lot of things I work on (I do freelance writing/social media promotion as bill paying work). One way we did on here was post the first in a series of short stories, with the rest available on the $1 tier.

Makes sense. Yeah it becomes a full time job, and I don't think I'm set up for it. I don't have the ability to video or the know how. So I noticed that is a huge thing in the modern age.

I'm not that well versed with videos either, but there are people out there that can help on that front.
