On The Threshold of Creation

O

On The Threshold of Creation

Daughter of Hecate, I was born upon the threshold of one year and the next: a tiny earthen creature, awash in a sea of stars. Too late did I remember Capricorn is the goat with the tail of a fish, and perhaps my legs were never meant to tread upon the earth. I've heard tell that Saturn is the harshest master, and will never be satisfied by words alone. In the beginning I was sure-footed as the goat who glitters in stars above me, ideas sprung full-grown from my head, as Athena born from Zeus Too late do I recall that prophecy foretold, Zeus' own creation would surpass even him. I'm still trying to puzzle out whether my own creation will

Sehnsucht - The Winter Fae

Katie stormed out the front door about a minute after arriving home. Her parents were at it again. The argument had progressed to the point where neither one was making any effort to keep their voices down. It didn't matter that Katie had SATs to study for. There was no chance of that with her parents screaming their heads off about - what was it this time? Katie listened. Oh, God. The hairbrush. They're fighting about the hairbrush again.   That was enough for Katie to slip back out to the porch, pull on her rollerblades and go. She didn't want to be here if the cops showed up again. But I missed my rocky beaches, crashing waves swirling sea-spray against wind-reddened cheeks, breathing life into salted lungs. So we chased the Atlantic northward, up the coast, snaking up Route One, a wending wave of rocky coastline. I don't know what caused your eyes to droop or the bottle of sleeping pills we had in the cabinet to disappear. Or do I know what caused the man who killed his wife to stab the one he swore "I do" to. But what I do know is the message twisted and fitted into our brains, that all things happen as they must, snap and fit like zippers and buttons. So maybe the bride, had cheated on her beloved or maybe she was crazy; and he was just helping her out. And maybe you were created to grab my heart and break it then mend it back together, all to let yourself go in the end.

Him, in the very beginning: He is eighteen when he gets his death sentence. Unlike most death sentences, this one isn't going to send him to the guillotine or maybe the noose. Instead, it's handed to him by a doctor with very clean hands in a stark white room probably very similar to the one he'll end up dying in. And it's not the type of death sentence carried out by an impassive executor. He's essentially going to kill himself. He is dying from the inside out. He mumbles something at the doctor, and suddenly he is on the street, a white piece of paper fisted and crumped in his hands. He's grateful it has the prescription written on it in

Tragic Beauty

I remember lying in my hospital bed at the physical rehabilitation facility, far too many years ago,  staring at a picture of a little girl. Someone had brought it in for me, though I didn't remember who or why. In the picture she was wearing shorts, and leaning to feed bread to the ducks gathered around her. I stared at the little girl's legs and cried. She was beautiful. "I broke you," I whispered to her. "I'm so sorry I broke you. I never meant to. Please, forgive me." And she did, of course. But I'm not sure if that made it better or worse. There was a poet staying in the room next to me. He was a brain trauma patient, unlike me. For so

The Ballad of Serenity

A nightingale in a birch nearby, sang a song that made her cry. "Another note and I shall die!" Her threat was met with no reply. And so she rested by the stream, and heard the crickets softly dream. She watched the cattails kiss the stars, believing heaven not so far. "And here is where I shall be free," whispered fair Serenity. The orphaned child, the strange young girl born into an ancient world. No elegance or skill had she but the ballad, of Serenity. She was cursed with just one song: a ballad haunting, soft and long. The words were never hers to hear, but danced always beyond her ear. On harp, flute, lyre she wiled aw

Elegy Of A Lost Season

Elegy Of A Lost Season

I am the fall. Broken in June, buried in August - haunting September from the boughs of hazel, where not even the rain could reach me. How my limbs ached to feel its soothing caress; but my limbs felt nothing, and I felt nothing. And the season moved on, without me. Once, long ago, I was spring, delicate and pure; fragile as willow seedlings, believing themselves strong, as they stretch toward the sun - before the wind breaks their stalks, and they fall defeated, drained, limp upon the ground; crushed and forgotten as tears. But no, I was summer - when I looked into your eyes for the first time and forgot to curse the sun. Tin

My Bio
Hi there. I see that you've found my page, so thank you for visiting! I'm Rain. Or Julia. Or Lady. Or M'lady. Whatever, really. I also answer to "Hey, you." I'm friendly and I write stuff. I'm emotional and sometimes goofy. I'm a proud nerd and fairly straight edge, and very non-judgmental. I'm 26 technically, but also permanently stuck at age 17. I'm writing a young adult fantasy series (7 books total). I've finished the first book and half of the second. It is my goal to one day be a published author.

DailyLitDeviations stamp by caybeach I am now a :icondailylitdeviations: Poetry Admin! I'm so very excited about this, and would love for you to send me suggestions! Please go here to read my guidelines.

I give llamas to virtually everyone I come in contact with on DA, so if I haven't managed to give you one yet, just remind me. :) I sometimes go on comment binges in random people's galleries. Then I take weeks replying to the comments I get back. But that's only because I'm off randomly commenting on another deviant's lovely gallery. Rest assured, I will reply to every comment I get, and every reply, because I cherish them all. Also, I'm disabled so I get sick here and there and I might disappear for a few days. I'm sorry if this happens - it's nothing personal.

Just so you know, if I fall in love with your artwork and see that it isn't getting the exposure I think it should, I've been known to madly submit it to zillions of groups and suggest it for features.

I feel totally special when admins and senior members talk to me. Or when artists who I love, and who have hundreds of thousands of pageviews actually respond to me. But you know what makes me feel even more special? When you comment on my artwork. ;)

Well, that's enough for now I suppose. If you want to know more about me, just ask. I'll answer most anything and won't get offended. I'm a very open person.
