Whenever someone thinks of “romance” in writing, what immediately comes to mind? Do you often think of beautiful damsels in distress? Maybe you might see handsome heroes coming forth to save the day with their dueling swords or pistols? Or perhaps even an unexpected passionate love affair between the last two people you might ever expect! Whatever these stories happen to entail, and whether we all choose to acknowledge it or not – some of us are looking for a few fun and frisky cheap thrills. So...

:rose: You Think You Can Thrill Me? :rose:

I want to see some really saucy, outrageous romances from you. Writers of all jacks and trades! Here is your chance to outdo some of the greats: Danielle Steele, Mary Balogh, Nora Roberts…you name it. Go forth and write me a poem or short story that gives your readers a disgustingly funny or romantically shocking cheap thrill. Be as vividly original as you can to make your deviation stand out, but do keep our key elements of what you feel the aspects of “romance” entail as your primary motivation while writing.

:rose: A Few Submission Guidelines: :rose:

:bulletpurple: Your submissions must be new deviations entered after today. Please note all of your entries to LadyLincoln marked as: “Cheap Thrill Romance Contest.” Your deadline is on July 1st.

:bulletpurple: Both poetry and prose is accepted. Prose writers: make sure your stories are no longer than 3,000 words in length. Novel excerpts will be also accepted, but they must abide by the guidelines set above. Poetry enthusiasts: your new deviations should be no longer than 40 lines in length.

:bulletpurple: Prize donators may enter, but not judges. (Judges: feel free to whip up a creative piece for fun, should you so choose!) Our selected judges will be closely looking at how you were able to incorporate our primary romance genre, your overall creativity with the piece and the masterful techniques you used throughout.

is it ok if like theirs a poem within my story, but its like a thought?

I'm struggling with the theme.. wat do u mean by Cheap Thrill Romance ....
Loza-Muse's avatar
can their be more than one entry?
LadyLincoln's avatar
No. Only one entry per deviant.
Loza-Muse's avatar
aww okaaaay well i should think of something... can it just be like a random starting or does it actually have to finish lol
LadyLincoln's avatar
It must be a finished piece of polished/clean poetry or prose as per the rules of the contest stated within the article. As far as the theme: that is open to everyone's interpretation, as 'cheap thrills' is pretty broad. This article (I hope) gives everyone a fairly good idea of what I am looking for.

Good luck!

i dunno wat cheap thrills are tho.. can u give me an example please?

This contest is essentially poking fun at the romance genre. Think of an excerpt from a really cheesy romance novel and turn it into something spicy or fun. Or even serious - just write something creative.
Loza-Muse's avatar
can it be random... like full on in the feel then bam... lol coz thats wat ive done

Eesh, that deadline is fast approaching, isn't it? :worry:

Is it at all possible for me to also email you a copy of my submission? I can upload a deviation as well, but I have recently discovered that none of the formatting from my Word document carries over onto deviantArt, and it's a huge problem for the style of my story.
LadyLincoln's avatar
Can you note me and give me a better idea of what the issues are that you are having with your submission?
LVeraWrites's avatar
Will we be able to read some of the entries?
LadyLincoln's avatar
Yes, as soon as I have collected them all after the contest is over.

I've got to find the time to enter this somehow. :giggle: This sounds like a brilliant idea for both the readers and writers.
More so the writers though; it's a push to make one of the most original plans we can. How exciting!

Thank you!

I do hope you will have the opportunity to have a bit of fun with it! :tighthug:
