Welcome to volume fifthteen my Literature series, The Ladies of Lit!
The premise here is simple. Below you will find an assortment of Literature features from a selection of female deviants here on DeviantART, all of them suggested by you. In this article, you will also find a variety of other things of interest, including:

middle finger into your palm and it bends
around its spinal cord

bending to your will, you think so
catch it
in your fist. like a crumpled bird scratching its hollow bones
the squeezing of paper with paper
that your nails push
back
into your fingers. you are breaking open your senses by
breaking its wing like
a hawk
tearing
off
the neck of an eagle.

you're with me when light's
with me; you're lying on the grass
with me in August—look, the morning
rises from the pages of the book
you lent me, wooden senryu, tanka
bound by string so sweet, a relic,
so delicate: your mouth forms copper words
that melt your eyes that pull my hands
out of my wrists that take them
that speak the language of silence;
I can barely hear your voice over the crickets,
over the river that runs through spiderwebs
we watch the patterns tear the water clear
I know you now, so let the stars vaporize
into the morning air.
Bring me alive.

The hollowI'm living in an apartment I gleaned off Jake & I've never known a place to be so deplorable. It looks gorgeous, but beneath the surface is a plundering quiet that steals life out of the bacterium air & cannibalizes its own chimera. I'm spilling my guts all over at every hour & it shows; these floors are carpeted with the words that fall from my mouth when I'm home alone & talking to myself. But the thoughts I struggle so much to push out of my head are still here, sleeping in the quiet's arms, stretching like newborns on the floor where they will someday consume me. I blink. The floor is clear again, but I know they're only hiding.

"Megan's writing is radiant, captivating with its charm and elegance— it's sunlight streaming into a dark room."

"Not only does Molly-Snicklefritz's prose fully immerse the reader into the world she's created, but her poetry is just as amazing."

"renaissancegirl0624 might not have a lot of writing in her gallery, but she's an emerging poet to watch. Although she's adept at stringing together beautiful words and images, she never lets them get in the way of her often gritty, powerful messages."

"This writer seems capable of taking on any topic and making readers sit up and really take notice of what she's telling us and how she does it (she uses a humor that's often quite dry). She also has a great way of surprising us at the end of the short and flash fiction she usually writes."

My life is like a flower...Brian looked like he was asleep. Short mousey brown hair sat around his face in the style he loved and he wore his favourite suit - the one that made him look a little like a super spy in one of those silly movies he used to love. The edges of his lips were curved slightly upwards as if his last thought had been a happy one, or as if in his final thoughts he became the Brian she'd fallen in love with again: all mischief and mirth, playful and always making her laugh at the most inappropriate times. A tear dropped from one eye and down her cheek. She touched his face with the back of her hand. &
Ke-yana writes with bold detail with her amazing prose. Several of her short stories and novel segments often hold me in suspense – and you cannot help but read on and joyously watch as her characters come to life. In her wonderful gallery, you will find a variety of tremendous literature pieces and other crafty deviations.
She has also taken a few moments to share some of her own insights as a writer. I asked her a few questions:
As corny as this is going to sound it's the truth: I write because if I didn't I'd explode. All the stories, thoughts, characters, ideas…just…noise in my head. I have to get it out of my head or I would be overwhelmed by it all and go insane.
Read a lot - not just in the genre you want to write in, but read everything that interests you, fiction and non-fiction, and everything you can get your hands on.
Write a lot - the more you write the better you get, more you experience the things you want to write and the more you learn the habits you need to develop to be a professional writer. I would also highly recommend NaNoWriMo.
I have a number of friends who are keen on my writing universe and they keep me connected. My mum, since reading one of the draft copies of Time Speaker has encouraged me to keep going. Although, really, the biggest connection to my writing is my characters - they would nag me incessantly if I didn't keep writing.
I want to be the best that I can be, and dA, although quite painful at points has, and is helping me with that. I'd also like to get some readers/fans for my series.
That's a surprisingly hard question to answer. I love all three of them for very different reasons. But probably the "Dynasties Prologue." Not because it's my best work or anything technical, but because I love the feeling in that scene and the imagery. It's also the very, very beginning of my Time Speaker series, and has a great number of thematic implications in the universe itself.
davidanaandrake will also be joining us in the our TheLadiesofLit chatroom for a special critiquing session for her wonderful literary work. If there are any critiquing tips you would like to offer her toward any deviations that you have seen featured here today or others that interest you – this is the place to be on November 13th at 7:30 pm EST! (What time is this for me?) And as an extra incentive: for those of who offer davidanaandrake the best critiques, there will be a few extra goodies in store for you, so don't miss out!
Meet Our Contributors:
I want to express my gratitude toward everyone for all of the ongoing support of this project. I duly hope to see even more suggestions in the future. Also – those of you who did not see your deviations selected and posted in this article, they may be featured on the next one. We will have plenty of upcoming deviants to spotlight in the future. If you would like to be one of those, or to suggest others, feel free to note me and be sure to tell me what you love most about them and why these writers appeals to you. Do not be shy – get involved! The more suggestions I receive, the more writers that get featured. For now, check out our volunteers who sent in their features and offered assistance, and don't forget to thank them!
