I was looking around the Church.  I was sitting far back enough so that the most of the mass was lost in the high, painted ceiling, among the cherubs and the gold leafing.  The people around me were looking for God.  There was one man reciting Hail Mary's, one after the other, not listening to the words he was saying.  One woman was sitting there, weeping quietly.  One or two were asleep.

They would never find God.  There was only one way to find God, I knew, and that was to be looking for him out of the corner of your eye…

"Aha!" I yelled, standing up, turning around and pointing…  Pointing at a man with a dirty mop in hand, and an overbite.  One of the sleepers had roused.  The priest at the front didn't miss a beat.  "Sorry." I told the janitor.  "I thought you were someone else."

--

The janitor watched the embarrassed man walk out quickly.

"That was too close." He said as he started scrubbing the tiles.
hmm. Brought on by studying Herbert, Jonson and Donne. Who I am supposed to be writing an essay on RIGHT NOW! HAHAHAHA. sniff.

This will be moved to scraps when I can write something decent. These three things are just to prove to myself that I'm not dead.

Sweet and short, to the point. It's a very sweet story, I enjoyed it very much. The only thing that I didn't realyl understood was the need for the "--" break before the ending, it doesn't seem to serve much of a purpose there, and mostly interfere with the flow (for me at least).

Beautiful work.

I love this, finding God in others...then missing it. It really speaks of modern times and what we're doing (and not doing, as it were).

I like the twist...
Yes, the efforts put into effect to "find God" are usually most pointless and rather distracting from the real efforts, in my opinion... It doesn't take a church to show God, and it sure doesn't take Hail Marys (I'm not Catholic).

I like the brevity of this... the point is executed swiftly and clearly, yet retaining its value. Don't scrap this, it's clever work.

The kind of thing that can make an atheist happy (if they are open-minded, that is).
I agree with ~abstract-goddess and ~safie on capitalizing the second 'he'. Unless, of course, you don't want us to be too sure of the janitor's identity.;)

This is lovely :B I definitely wasn't expecting the ending-- I thought it would be a more cynical comment. P: I love the thought, though, and it's good to be able to get your message across in a short way.

... I just woke up, if that lacked clarity, my apologies. o_o

Nice job, and congrats on the DD!

I look for god in funny places, too.
But not in the creepy face-of-Jesus-in-my-mashed-potatoes kind of way.

Basially, what I'm saying is that this makes me happy.
