"You, my girl, are the last descendant of a family that belonged to an ancient clan called 'The Blood of the Dragon'. This clan was formed by seven other families, with each family representing a different kind of dragon. The Ice Dragon, Fire Dragon, Earth Dragon, Air Dragon, Electric Dragon, Acid Dragon, Light Dragon and Darkness Dragon. They all had a ring representing the energy of their dragon, but for unknown reasons, over the course of time the clan gradually diminished and the families and their rings disappeared."
That's what Alejandra's grandmother told her as a child, along with other stories about the guardian dragons and the clan's duty to protect the land. The magic and supernatural events that made up the stories that Alejandra enjoyed as a girl growing up eventually became curiosities of the past. Her family had a long history that was made up of many myths and legends, but in the end most of them were mere folklore and the reality was hidden. However, those stories left an impression, and a desire to above all, find out the truth behind the myths and uncover the facts of what actually happened. That motivation led her to become one of the most famous young archaeologists, and in turn make great discoveries in numerous different fields, and cause her scepticism to disappear as she discovered that magic really existed in the world in different forms.
The ancient civilization appeared to have true power beyond human understanding, but the most thing to Alejandra was the existence of magic in the old continent. In more than one occasion reading an ancient language caused a reaction in places like old castles and ruins that led to discoveries that many had overlooked. Some of which had never been shared with the world before.
Alejandra was a young woman who liked her hair short, just covering her ears. Since she was constantly on trips to jungles, it was more comfortable, and long hair also required too much care. She was in very good shape and exercised daily, which gave her a body that was envied and desired by many. Her greatest fault lay in her eyes, always hidden behind some black rimmed glasses. Her family consisted only of her grandmother, as her parents had disappeared when she was a teenager. However, her life would change the day her grandmother died, as she inherited an old chest that had been passed down from generation to generation by her family. The chest that nobody had been able to even decrypt some of the writings recorded on it, let alone open it. When Alejandra finally got her hands on the it, she immediately recognized the writing. It was the ancient magical language of the land. Over the next few weeks, Alejandra slowly deciphered what was written on it, but it still did not seem to make any sense. One night she sat in front of the chest, but despite recognizing each character on it, she still did not understand anything written there. All night, she stayed awake, as if waiting for the chest to speak and spill the secrets it was hiding. Suddenly, she saw it, right before her eyes, hidden in plain sight. The secret. The pattern to the riddle of the box. It was a very clever password, in an almost unknown ancient language for everyone and a rather fiendish puzzle.
- Again the great mind of Alejandra succeeds!
She knew she was smart, and just as she had presumed, she was correct.
Inside the chest were many scrolls in the ancient magical language, but there was also a map with the location of a castle, and one particular scroll with the castle description and the proof confirming that her family owned it.
The chest was completely hers, like it was her grandmother's, and her entire family before her and soon she would discover something else.
She decided to make the expedition to the castle alone. It was her first time exploring this particular landmark, but previous expeditions had never found anything special there. Of course, they didn't have the benefit of a map with the locations of all the hidden passages.
It was a long day, made longer by her adhering to the superficial issue of waiting to explore the castle at night. Near the stroke of midnight, she entered the room that was once the main hall of the castle. Alejandra stood in the center of the hall holding a scroll with the instructions to open a secret chamber. She didn't quite understand the words in the ancient language, but she knew how to pronounce them... and in doing so the floor around her started to lower, forming a spiral staircase.
At the very bottom, she found an obstacle that did not appear in any of the scrolls from the chest. There was supposed to be a door, but instead the head of a dragon made out of stone was in the wall.
This would not stop Alejandra though. She carefully investigated the room in search of any clues to enable to continue her way to the hidden chamber, but this time it would not be her intellect that would open the door, but rather a sheer fluke. As she searched, she placed her finger on the stone dragon. It was sharper than expected, causing a small cut on her hand and leaving blood that would fall into the stone dragon's mouth .
The dragon's eyes shone purple and it's mouth began to open, exposing a passage to a bigger room. The Dragon's Chamber.
Before her eyes materialized the legend from the story of her grandmother. The place where the the Blood of the Dragon clan met. It was beautiful. The weather had not taken it's toll on everything that was hidden here. This was a huge discovery that had never been seen before, and one of a very symbolic heritage, history, and her family's legacy.
Amid the chamber, she admired every detail, every ornament, every painting, every rune, every symbol. Eight dragon statues stared at her from the ceiling, and in the middle of the floor was a pentagram of black and white glass. Her finger still hurt, and a drop of blood fell to the floor. Unknown to her, the drop fell on the pentagram below her, and it began to shine.
She felt energy flow throughout her body, surrounding her, flowing inside her, and making her feel alive. The pleasure running through her body was like being born again, but the effects weren't only internal. Her body began to change. She felt stronger, tougher, and large dark purple wings had grown on her back. Her clothes had changed, and she now wore light medieval armor with a hood and a mask, and her hands were covered by clawed gloves and her feet with long boots.
-It's not exactly very fashionable.
-Have more respect for the garments of The Blood of the Dragon Clan.
Alejandra was startled by the serious-sounding voice behind her. She turned quickly and came face to face with small purple dragon, about 30cm in length.
-I think I must have inhaled something... I'm seeing things...
-Rude child! Who are you calling a 'thing'?
-And who are you calling 'child', you flaming winged lizard?! What's wrong with me? I'm arguing with a hallucination...
-Winged lizard? GRRRRR!"- The Little Dragon lunged towards her and bit her finger. This startled Alejandra rapidly
-AHHHH! What do you think you're doing?! That hurt! Wait a minute... that hurt me... that means... You're real!
-Of course I'm real! What, were you not taught anything about your guardian dragon? What about the wise men of the clan? Where is everybody?
Alejandra then realized that the little dragon knew nothing of what had happened to the Blood of the Dragon .
-I'm afraid there are no wise men or anyone else... the clan just disappeared.
-Disappeared, you say? But how?
-I don't know... I have not found anything about them. It's one of the great mysteries about the clan. And even stranger after seeing the true powers they possessed... However, there is nothing left of the clan.
-You're wrong... You remain to revive the clan... To continue their duty to save the world from evil."
-Me? You must be kidding... I'm just an archaeologist. I have no experience in fighting evil nor powers nor anything like that. That's best left to superheroes that actually have powers and abilities."
-And what about those huge wings on your back?"
- Aren't they part of the suit?- Alejandra realised when she took a closer look at them. Those wings were really part of her. She could move them, but more than that, she felt stronger. Her glasses seemed to now disturb her vision. Her fangs felt slightly long and sharp. Her wings began to flutter, and an idea passed through her mind. She closed her eyes as her mind was filled with an instinct that invaded her being. With a slight push of her legs, she lifted off and flew atop the huge Dragon's Chamber.
-Wow... this is amazing... I can feel the power..
She started to laugh as she wandered back into the chamber. -I feel free... I feel alive... I feel veeeeeryyy good!
The little dragon flapped in front of her with what appeared to be a smile on it's face.
-I am Jester. I'll be your guardian and teach you the arts of the Blood of the Dragon clan.
-I'm Alejandra, but from now on, you can call me the Purple Dragon.
