The Jester's Guide to Redemption: Chapter 8
“So, how was the date?” Stein asked Kjell early on Monday morning. His friend was leaning against the doorframe of his office and giving him a cocky grin that suggested he wanted details.
At least Kjell had had the entire weekend to prepare for this question. He rolled his eyes dramatically. “Oh yeah, that girl,” he said sarcastically. “She wouldn’t shut her mouth for even two seconds. I could hardly get a word in all night. I was being driven crazy, Stein! Sure, she was pretty, but I had to kick her out early for some peace and quiet. Total waste of my time.”
Stein laughed at Kjell’s indignation. The lie had gone perfectly, and Stein couldn’t exactly sense Kjell’s sweaty palms or accelerated heart rate from across the room. “You certainly know how to pick them, Kjell,” the man said.
“Tell me about it. I’m surprised she even stopped talking to swallow her food,” Kjell harrumphed. Oh yeah. He was totally selling this falsehood.
