Done for an art contest hosted on GaiaOnline.

The OC we were told to design is based on the story of The Indian water Lilies!
“Far away in the Indian jungle, there lies a small and mysterious lake. When the moon rises, big and yellow, to the sky, the moon goddess and hundreds of stars come down to dance on the lake. They dance, all night long, to the chants of a witch who is standing beside the waterfall. With dawn, the moon goddess claps her hands and all of them must return to the skies. But one night, seven stars continued to dance. They suffered heavily for their disobedience: the witch had them in her power and changed them into fairies, forcing them to dance on the water-lilies forever. watching there brothers and sisters up in the sky..wishing to dance with them.”

This took me forever to get done. (Mostly because I had to wait for the Copics to arrive in the mail. >.>) I went through about 12 different pre-made backgrounds before finally admitting defeat and creating my own. XD

BTW, Copics are friggin' amazing.

I am abnormally happy with this piece. ^^

Aren't they gorgeous? :iconloveloveplz:
I get all mine through online shipping 'cause there's only two stores on my state that sells them, and it would cost me more in gas to go to either one of them than shipping and handling does. :XD

There are only few shops in Europe and they don't ship them outside their countries ;___;

the shading is alright i think you could use some stronger darks from far away it seems liek jsut base colors

although i think for the way you illustrated it the way you colored her skin and hai r works

the main issue i have is w/ the cloth .. like is aid a bit too blotchy

I do need more darks. And more lights. And more mid-tones.... I'm currently working with a basic 24-color set of copics, and most of those colors are the cool and warm grays. I think I did alright with what I had. XD

But you are right. Definitely blotchy. But, hey, I got time to practice!

it's lovely i think her head is the most awkard part .. ab it too big... rule of thumb is that the head fits into the body 7 or 8 times.. i liek long bodies so... haha
the biggest issue for me is that it seems so stiff in the body and cloth but the hair's so flowy and soft.. like the cloth has extremely hard tones for the dark and seems kind of blotchy w/ the black but then it gets kind of soft w/ the light tones..
i love the gold armlets it really looks like metal

the hands are also very well done :] aside from the movement issue i think its a lovely piece

It doesn't look like it, because of the way she's curved inward and her hair is so fluffy, but the shape of her head fits exactly 7 times into her body.

As for the stiffness, I was trying to force movement into a pose that was already static (pose was referenced and is linked, in case you didn't see it). I'm not that great with anatomy and posing to begin with, so I did fail on that end. The cloth is also actually referenced - I don't know what it's called, but the fabric is exceptionally thick and the movements are stiffer than one would normally consider cloth to be. The blotchiness can't be helped, though - working with a limited palette sucks. XD

Must practice more. <3

Thank you so much!

oooh ok :] i guess it was just the trick of the eye XD

and i saw the reference i admit it does look a bit static but i think it still has some movement.. i think its b/c her back curves more and her side on the right crunches in a bit more wher eas yours seems to want to go more.. straight ?
like.. the reference has a slight inverted 3 or S shape on her back and her hip protrudes a bit more on the right so it seems like she's putting her weight on that side more

I see what you mean. I totally missed the scrunch in the side, and it probably didn't help that I changed the angle that foot was turned at - now that I look at it, it makes the entire pose incredibly awkward. XD I'll keep my eye on that next time.

Thank you for the advice!
