Celtic Knot Inspired Cat

By labrattish
Corner piece done for a personalized memo pad.

Inspired particularly by the illuminated manuscript the "Book of Kells" (the actual thing, not the animated movie that details a fictionalized version of its creation. Though the movie is amazingly awesome...). My cat is nowhere near as amazing as the stuff in the book.

Adobe Illustrator. The cat is drawn shapes with the paintbrush. The background is a photograph of leather that was live traced and turned into vector shapes then had the opacity messed with.

Thank you! It's always nice when people try to find the source.  I suppose I should start watermarking...even if it makes me ever so sad to do it.

You may consider that your cat is 'nowhere near as amazing as the stuff in the book', but your design and setup are really great ! :+favlove:

I love the design. Really sweet!

(I so agree with you about the film!)

Thanks! I adore the film so much. I expected to be all humbug about it because Irish Literature is part of my speciality (I have an English Literature degree with emphasis in research) but I love it so much. I've actually managed to get it to be used in a few of the courses at my University (which I now work for).

I was so disapointed when Up got an award instead of the Book of Kells...
I love the art, so unique.
I'm not as knowledgeable as you but I looked up some information, such as the name of the cat and discovered that they really did their homework to create this movie!
Kudos for you!! Keep up the good work! :D

Me to :/
The movie was actually pretty much funded through the Irish government (and Irish staffed). Someone once told me that Disney was attached to it, but they decided it was too risky and dumped it. It stayed in semi-production until the government stepped in to give them money for production. And then it took forever to get to the U.S.

Funny that you mention Pangur Bán *pokes my signature*

I'm not surprised. Sadly nowadays Disney only copies or plays safe. >.< A shame.

Hahaha I had not noticed. I love this little cat character. He is just great and I love the song that turns him into a ghost.
