Description

This is actually four individual shots put side by side.
The actual shots are not manipulated.

All shots had the same settings:
f/18
2 sec
ISO 640
300mm

Taken with a Canon 5D Mark II, a Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro 70-300mm lens, and a Canon 580EX II flash

Flash was used off camera at 1/32 power
Flash trigger from HiViz [link]

Shots were taken in a dark room, allowing for a longer shutter speed, but the flash is what froze the action.

Shots were done on black plexiglass with a black background.

The flash had a makeshift snoot pointed at a white foam core board at a 45 degree angle and bounced off another white foam core board also at a 45 degree angle.

I used half-n-half instead of milk for a thicker consistency.

A dropper was inserted into a wooden frame that I constructed to hold the dropper and flash trigger in alignment.

The dropper held uncolored "milk". One drop was dropped onto the plexiglass. Then a drop of food coloring was added to the drop. And then finally another drop was dropped down to produce the splash.

Only one shot was necessary to produce each one as the flash trigger allows the timing to be precise.

Lots of paper towels and Windex were used to keep my surface clean between shots. :D

More shots of milk:

It's awesome ! I just don't understand the timer : 2 seconds and the photo is clear ? It should be moving, no ?
