Before anyone complains, I will give a warning. This is a depiction of the Mayan Creation Myth, and yes, that is a tree shooting out of a man's chest. Get over it.

Ok, I drew this a few months ago. After watching "The Fountain" a few too many times, and doing my research paper on the Maya, the Tree of Life and Xibalba, I designed this tattoo, which I plan to get sometime soon. It is going to be big, and this is just a concept, but it gets the basic idea out.

My plan is to have First Father, the Mayan Glyphs, the turtles supporting the world and the very bottom of the tree trunk in black and white, like a stone carving. The rest is going to be in vivid, realistic detail. It is a Bayan Tree I used (I think that's how it's spelled), and the world needs to be made more realistic. I might go for more of an idea of leaves rather than separate leaves with shading and such on every single one. It will probably take two sessions to do anyway.

But yes, I want to get this for my twentieth birthday. However, if Mikara Falling gets accepted for publication before then, I am getting a tattoo to commemorate that first, and will hold off another year on this one. I love it to death though!!!!!

Hopefully I'll be able to find someone locally who can pull this one off. I know of one guy that could, definitely, but he has a five month waiting list on tattoos. Damn.

But yeah, I'll keep looking. Give critiques!!! Anything! I want to know what you guys think!

hello, i love this drawing, i've seen the fountain and loved it. Can you tell me of some sites where i can find more info about the myth of the tree sprouting from a man? I can only seem to find the myth about the gods creating mud men, it would be much appreciated-thanks!

I'm not sure there are many websites out there. I can give you some article titles and book titles, if you'd like? I should still have my bibliography for that research paper somewhere around here...

Its a great concept. Just find a good tattoo artist, otherwise you'll just end up with a $150.00 inked regret.
I'd get a tattoo if I could keep a solid idea in my head for more than a week. I've bounced between Fenrir and Jormunganndur, sort of digital themes, and even (compliments of my woman) taking the tattoos from Fable. Since those were pretty sweet too.

Hehe. Yeah. I've got a effing phenomenal artist (Ben Shaw) here, so as soon as I get all the money up (going to get it on my right side, across the ribs and down to my hip) I plan on getting it done. Thinking of asking for just money for my birthday so that could help.

But yeah, I loooooooooooooooovvvvvvveee tattoos. They are fun to get and to look at and to have, so, my first will not be my last. I doubt this one will be my last either. Hehe.

I think as an idea this is cool, but for a tat it is too standard, and it would need more flare, either as an engraving, or as a brush piece maybe, i leave thar to you.

Hmmm. Did you read the description? If so, did you like the idea there, or is it the idea you were commenting on? Sorry, kinda lost. I plan on redoing the design sometime to more fit my description, but don't have time right now.

Ok. Just curious. Thanks for the opinion though! I'm always looking for more of them!

That, would be kickin'.
First tattoo I want to get are entwined dragons on my shoulder/arm. But, that's going to have to wait until I'm not dirt poor. Hell, I don't even have dirt right now. Stupid snow. Snow isn't any good, melts. Then you get water, but it's dirty. Dirt + water isn't useful unless its mud. Which it isn't, because I don't have enough dirt to add to the dirty water. Hence = not-even-quite-dirt-poor, but I do have a job now, so who knows.

I love the idea of it. I've never studied into it, but I did watch the movie. It confused the hell out of me... but only because I'm rather short on attention span so I was multitasking. Mmm, writing.

No news on Mikara yet?!

Oh, right... I should probably actually comment on the thing itself. lol... Well, hmm. So it is going to have color? The shape and design itself is cool, and I kind of like the leaves... if the color fades/transists then it would look awesome, but the white spaces kind of... hmm. I think [some] leaf designs/shapes over the idea or look of leaves collectively might be pleasing to the eye. Have fun figuring that one out. Multiple sketches are fun anyways, works out a lot of ideas so I'm sure you'll find what you want for that part. The designs on the planet, the symbols, kind of... could they be made, more defined? When I see them I think... important, but at the same time I just kind of shrug and then forget about them. Just curious. I mean, if they aren't important then don't mind my rambling. Other than that. I love it. Even with those things, I love it. I really want to study into it now. It's... odd in a pleasing way.
