I want to make a note that long due dates are a BIG turn off for a lot of contestants.
As someone who tends to enter contests from time to time, I notice I easily turn away when I see due dates that lasts lifetimes.
Not only are they annoyingly unattractive, but you will have a lot less entries
. After a long time people will forget the contest
is there and become inactive
People tend to work better and faster
when they are on a time pressure that is achievable but not impossible.
Most people prefer to "contest snipe
" as well. Which means submitting on the last day because they think it works in their favour.
Based on my research in a poll with my watchers; sp00kitty.deviantart.com/journ…
(unfortunately I couldn't get a bigger audience for this research but this is still reliable.) I noticed that the preferred time for a contest is a month.
Or even less, the second most voted was 3 weeks.
That is about three times less than most contests! Mostly I see contests going between 3 - 6 months.
It's insane, you guys. It does not take anyone
half a year to make a drawing.
DO NOT HOST LONG DUE DATES, THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU MORE ENTRIES.
A tip on getting more people interested in your contest is by rewarding them;
Say first place gets 30$ if there are ten entries or less, then you can say you will up the price to 40$ if you get 15+ entries and so on.
On top of that you can always extend the contest if asked! (Which I recommend to be MAX two weeks extra.)
So if you are planning on hosting a contest, make sure you get the due date straight or it will be a flop.
