9x12 inches, oil on stretched canvas.

This is one I've actually decided to keep for myself (otherwise, I would take a better picture. once varnished, the tones settled and all the dry spots vanished that look so off in this photo, like the shadow of the elephant in her hair - totally normal now, but too shiny with the varnish to really snap a great picture of.)  The model is my daughter, who I managed to catch right before she was rushed out the door off to her exciting life... while I sit home with paint and canvas on a friday or saturday night. Wooo! I'm so exciting! *ahem*

I was nervous painting this one because I worked so hard to get her drawn right, and then I forgot to seal my pencil work and when I put a wash of umber on it, the liquin took off ALL my drawing. I just about cried, but I winged it with a lot of "is her eye about here? ARGH! maybe here..." and it's pretty close now. Close enough that I am happy with it. I have plans for a lot more paintings with elephants in them, but it's probably time to move to larger canvases. We had people over here for my daughter's high school graduation party over the weekend and they saw it and were surprised it wasn't bigger. They had seen my post on facebook and assumed it was a much larger piece. I think that was a hint...
