Hey man, I got redirected from the GSG tutorial. Your work is AMAZING! I tried so many different combinations but I can't make mine look REMOTELY close as yours. I'm wondering how you got those amazing renders, did you do any post alterations to lighting or extra textures?

I've been at it for like a week, this is my best one so far :( instagram.com/p/w2XUg4Ay6Q/?mo…

Just wondering if you could give me some guidance about how you set your settings out to get a much cooler effect than what I have!

Any help is much appreciated!!! :)

Thanks so much!!!  Hey yours is pretty cool!!!  I don't so any fancy lighting other than to use an HDR map on a sky object for the lighting....and make sure you use some reflection on your material for the "columns"

I see, you basically you followed Chris' tutorial and just added an HDR map and reflection for the columns! Thanks for letting me know! :) How do you go about selecting a good picture to use, like some of yours have really nice contrasting "landscapes" sort of thing, do you use a specific website or just try your luck to see how it comes out?

Thanks for replying, kindly appreciated and no worries about the faves, big fan of this column style!!!!

I look at a lot of Google images.....it really helps if there is a lot of contrast...if not....all the pillars/columns end up being about the same height....you have to do a bit of work on them in photoshop too.....convert to B/W and then I usually tweak the contrast more.....I hope this helps...

You're most welcome. Did you try also in rainbow colors? I had this idea when looking at your work :-)

Thanks!!!  There are 250,000 of the "pillars"....and each has 5 polys....so 1,250,000 polys....

hmm, i thought it was a lot more, the limit my computer can't exceed in most of the time is  around 10M
thanks :D

It is deliberately "light" in polys.....to keep rendertime down...and make it easier to get realtime feedback in the viewport....

i get around 1-0.5 fps when i get 200.000 due to my slow computer XD
