I've stumbled accross some amazing photomanipulation series in the last couple of weeks, and since my previous journal is incredibly old already I felt like it would be a good time to give a shout-out to those passionate artists, who are brave enough to tackle such a thing. From my own experience I know it can be pretty tough to complete a series of images, which are all visually and conceptually connected but still unique in their own way. This is especially true in the photomanip genre, where we're often reliant on a pool of photos and therefore limited in following the visual guidelines we set for ourselves. I last attempted to create a se

Hi, everyone!
So, it's time for another photomanip contest! :eager:
The theme of this one is the zodiac. It is one often used; however, rather than just focusing on the star zodiac (Aries, Capricorn, Aquarius, etc.), I thought it would be interesting to incorporate other types of zodiacs. I have found pages that give information on some of the more well-known ones (however, you are welcome to dig as deep as you'd like and go further than the ones shown below):

August theme: Playing with FireHi guys, did you miss your favourite challenges? I bet you did!
I hope the long, summer months are treating you well and you're relaxing somewhere by the seaside or living through fantastic adventures. If you're not, though, then I'm sure you're going to be interested in partaking in the fresh, new photomanip challenge - Playing with Fire (big kudos to Aeirmid (https://www.deviantart.com/aeirmid) for suggesting the theme some time ago).

January Theme: New Beginning
How are you guys in the New Year? I hope you've had a great time this New Year's Eve and are looking forward to new challenges and surprises! Everything is beginning once more; did you make any resolutions? And at last, this brings me to this month's theme - New Beginning!
What can you portray? Let's think about it - is a beginning of a new season? Is a brave hero beginning an adventure? Is a wanderer setting off on the road to the unknown? Is a child being born? Or maybe someone is being raised from the dead? Or dying? Is someone in the process of creating a new, wonderful world?
As you can see, there is reall
A former volunteer with the Artist Relations team, `kuschelirmel has always been a wonderful role model within the community. With a vibrant and eclectic gallery that would make anyone proud, her dedication to providing informative and easy to follow tutorials, journal CSS, and inspirational stock is clearly long overdue for recognition. Join us in congratulating Jasmin in being awarded this month's Deviousness Award.
Since I don't get around to updating this journal as often as I should, I thought I'd leave you some information on me and what I do in case you're interested...
My name is Jasmin Junger, by day I work for an engineering and construction company based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. I live in Karlsruhe though, that means quite the long commute every day (though I can do home office sometimes). That in turn means there is little time for my photography and photomanipulation hobby - so if you are trying to reach me, please don't get mad if I don't immediately respond.
I have been photoshopping for more than 15 years now and I still absolutely
Photoshop has a great arsenal of tools that let you work non-destructively. Let's take a look at three of the most important options.
1. Layer & Vector Masks
Have you ever cut something out using the eraser only to find out later (when your undos are no longer available) that you cut too much? Use Layer and Vector Masks instead of the eraser!
A Layer Mask (Layer > Layer Mask > Add Layer Mask) is a raster mask that can go from white through grey to black: anything you paint black will become invisible, anything white is visible and all greys are degrees of opacity. You can use any brush to paint on it or you can
