Triggerhappy: Tumblr style by KukuruyoArt Triggerhappy: Tumblr style by KukuruyoArt

(Versión española)

There have been some Tumblr comics going around in social media recently about different social issues, like women as protagonists in media, all of them in typical “tumblr style” art and “tumblr style” argumentation, meaning a strawmans with things that no one has ever said, or that even refute themselves. So i felt like doing a comic parody emulating the Tumblr style.

Tumblr comics are already infamous because they all look practically the same. They’re all done with very bad drawing quality, humans bodies been amorphous blobs, with saturated pink colors, big colored noses that make it seem as if everyone has a cold, lineart lacking on thickness variance, and little to no shadows, usually with very bad narrative composition and lots of negative tropes. All signs that the people doing them either have no knowledge of drawing and are trying to hide it under the guise of “style”, or they have no artistic personality and just all copy the exact same style, in some kind of artistic hive mind; or both of those at the same time. Whatever the case, it has been kind of a challenge to draw so badly. I’ve had to be turning off my brain continously when it tried to make me fix all of the problems with faces, bodies, colors, etc. Granted we all have comic pages we have done quickly and lack quality, but with Tumblr is not an exception due to time constraints; it’s their base drawing style, and is no wonder it has become hated all over the internet.

It’s also no wonder because those drawings, with some exceptions, usually are acompanied by “Tumblr ideology”; the one composed of radical feminism and overal extreme wokeness that makes them despise men, whites, heterosexuals and promote the most crazy ideas. In lieu with that, some of those comics claim that men don’t want women as protagonists in media, because they’re sexist; or that there weren’t women in media till very recently; or that media that focused on preaching wokeness has been very succesful. None of those things are true. Women have been protagonists on media since forever, and there have never been a problem with it. These people simple erase from history all of the women in movies, series, videogames, etc, and pretend that every new female lead is the first time in history that it has happened. Prime example of that is Wonder woman/Captain Marvel. WW was presented by feminists as the first time a female superhero had a movie, or the first time a female had a lead in a movie, or even the first female superhero ever; then as the movie didn’t push feminism, men liked it, but feminists forgot about it, and now Captain Marvel is the first female superhero lead ever, as if WW had never existed.

People don’t care about female leads; they care about bad writing, and how there are some media that focuses on preaching to people what they should think, or how bad they are cause they’re men, or white, instead of trying to make a good story, and that affects the end product. We saw it with Ghostbusters, which ended up been a horrible movie, total failure in sales, like most of “woke” products, because it focused on belittling men and “girl power” instead of been a Ghostbusters movie. Then journalists and feminists tried to sell the idea that people didn’t like the movie cause they were sexist. Nothing to do with the movie been bad. Star wars has a huge drop in quality, horrible plot and execution, and fucks the existing lore with The last jedi, to instead preach against capitalism and promote Mary sue female leads? No, no, everyone who doesn’t love Rey is a misoginist, there’s no other possible reason.

And the same will happen with Captain Marvel. The movie is already been promoted as a feminist film; trailers are presented with the idea that men are sexist, and the women are gonna show men who’s the better sex! the lead actress is throwing bullshit left and right about who are allowed to review or enjoy the movie. We don’t know yet if the movie will be a bad shit that focuses on preaching instead of quality, or if this is just a horrible marketing strategy, but there’s no doubt that they’re hinting at the first, and anyone who points it out is been called a sexist. Meanwhile, Alita Battle angel is on theaters at almost the same time, and men are loving it (even if i don’t like it, cause it’s badly adapted form the source manga). Could it be, maybe, that men don’t care about a female lead, and will enjoy the movie if it’s simply an action movie who wants to entertain, instead of telling them how bad they are cause they’re men?

No, it’s the children who are wrong.

Should've had her putting the other character in a chokehold while creepily whispering in her ear and stroking her head like a dog, that's more in line with some of the more recent Tumblr comics I've seen. :V

I think, to be fair, Captain Marvel being told she can't do what men can do 'is' part of her backstory.

Her father 'was' a sexist who didn't believe women could do what men could do, and refused to accept neither his daughter being his more driven and intelligent child, or her success later in life as a pilot, astronaut and super hero.

I have never really liked Captain Marvel as  character. In particular her attitude in Civil War 2 when she decided to arrest people for crimes they might not commit because a precog who sees 'potential' futures predicted they 'might' happen, Minority Report style.

Won't stop me from seeing the movie and in all liklihood finding something to like about it.

Why couldn’t they have let Rouge KILL her originally?! They put her in a coma in case someone could “salvage” the character some day. It made for a great episode of the animated series, but the cost of that parasitoid after the retcon has not been worth it.

The "back story" is just typical Feminist man-hating bullshit. They always portray men that way. It's boring and unimaginative.

I love how PR teams are harnessing humanity's innate propensity for tribalism, inducing supposedly left-wing activist types into whiteknighting for corporate brands, just to dab on the "reactionaries."
The comic's creator believes representation is even more important than quality. A conservative equivalent to this would be to profess one's love for Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the U.S.A." - even if you don't love it as music - solely because you like its message. It's the valuation of the uses of a media work as propaganda above what it offers as an aesthetic experience.

So when a large number of people claim that Female Ghostbusters sucks, they cast those opinions as unreliable - because of bias - thereby pathologizing all opinions that disagree with their positive assessments of the film as suspect. How great is it to be able to claim that everyone who doesn't like media I like is morally defective! Dislike is interpreted as a sign of an unchangeable character flaw or political disagreement, which becomes: "We didn't want those shitty people in our fandom anyway!"

I myself don't like the Wonder Woman movie. The point is people using the fact that they didn't like a movie with a female lead to justify not having female leads in ANY movie, or hating on it because they can't connect to stories from different POVs
She literally believes that "the other side" is rooting for these projects to fail, so that no woman will ever be cast as a protagonist in a film ever again. She's got an apocalyptic mindset, as though if she didn't put these films on a pedestal, her beloved "representation" would evaporate - never to return again. It seems more than a little paranoid and delusional, considering Hollywood's pro-activist cultural zeitgeist.

You know what else is funny? "Reactionary" isn't even a legitimate word, it's just a sillier-sounding version of "Reactors", as in "Those who react negatively to the social engineering I'm pushing into art at art's expense".

very true and I agree they need to stop promoting this anti-male framework. I hate how they say only men hate the last Jedi and Captian Marvel. I and some of my female friends hate the Rey and captain marvel. the only reason marvel keeps pushing Captian marvel in the comics is that they want their own stand-alone female like wonder woman and fail to realize that not many people in the comic book community don't like her to which I didn't blame them.

I don't think 2016 ghost busters was that bad. course I went in expecting much worse, but really if you look at it as a parody movie or a rip off I think it comes off as much more enjoyable.  kind of like comparing the ghost buster's cartoon with the ape to the real ghost busters. there really is no comparing them, but if you take it as it's own thing it's kind of fun.

Yeah I wish they kept the dance scene in. I'm a sucker for thriller type scenes, it was one of my favorite scenes in The Mask too.  Some of the gags did make me chuckle, but then they just ... kept... going..! This movie would be half it's length if they just cut down on the line-a-rama crap to the first line or two and moved on. I realized it was going to be low brow humor I'd need to turn my brain off for when the tour guide gave his speech about the wall being made to keep the irish out, but Kevin was too much... though I have to admit, Chris Hemsworth nailed that role. I loathe the character, but love his performance.

Similarly, Blade got a movie way before T'Challa did, although admittedly nobody really remembered that until it became relevant to the exact argument you're making.

Also, Greek mythology is misogynistic as **** and even it had Penthesilea, so these people are even bigger idiots.

Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Like, come on! If a movie or story is good. Any cast will be loved or have characters who will be remembered for history if it's well made and following source-materials. Not because they happen to be a woman, male, fat, skinny, cyborg, Demi-Human and etc.
* Example time!
I didn't start reading Harry Potter as a kid because I liked Harry as a male protagonist in a gloomy environment who gets to be told he is a f****** wizard. wizard
I liked it because the world building it was written and characters made me imagine being there. Books btw which let the reader crank their imagination to an 11 til their respective movie got out!
**
I still love the movie Avatar. Not because of the message it carried. but because it was in outer-space with blue and tall aliens who was well-made with an amazing amount of effort into details for not just the race but also the environment they lived in. As cliche as that movie is. Still my favorite Sci-fi movie of all time. Sweating a little...

It's been bounced from director to director since the early 2000s, apparently, and no one has done anything with it. Scary thing is, first the rights went to, of all people, the guys responsible for American Pie, who wanted to add romcom elements to it and make Ridley a human love interest for Samus.
