Description
Early yesterday evening (May 2, 2010) received a 'Red Alert' warning of high levels of magnetic activity from a site that tracks these things for Aurora Borealis enthusiasts. Dang it! On a bloody Sunday again when I have to be up for work at 5am!! It was still too early in the evening to see them, skies were mostly overcast - so I decided to crawl into bed early and get up in a few hours to check on what was going on. When I went to bed the chance of seeing northern lights was 70% When I got up a few hours later at 1:00am the chance had jumped to a whooping 97% - a quick look outside, patchy clouds - weather forecast was calling for clearing skies soon. Instantly rushed out the door. (had packed up everything ready to go before crawling into bed)
Took me until almost 3:30am to find a dark place and a patch of clear sky. Worth it!
