I particularly love the shell like elements in this fractal. Do you know which part of the program produces these? I see the formula is a basic cubic with no additional variables. I've been searching and changing other variables in the coloring and lighting modukes to discover the source of the shells but can't find the entry that produces them yet.

Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have.

Paul - I am no expert on this or any other fractal program.  Jux does most of the work.  It then becomes a matter of finding a pleasing combination.  In this fractal, I used one of the cubic minibrots (I think – not positive!) M Ringtail 1.  The coloring used spot 2 and teardrop with a bit of wave.  I played with the gradient until I ended up with what we have,  I hope this information helps.

I noticed the use of teardrop. It takes some monkeying around with the coloring settings and eventually, by process of elimination I may figure out what produces the "shells". I've used other parameters posted here and modified them, sometimes radically, to produce some of my own works. I notice that Basins can often effect the appearance of fractal elements. I suspect that the shells may be an embedded element of the cubic formula. That is one of those formulas that has no additional settings for it like "integer" etc.
Here is one I created that resembles flowers. It's on Flickr.

Wink/Razz Paul, I like your picture.  Are you using Jux?  From the questions you are asking, I get the feeling you are trying to duplicate a Jux fractal in some other program.  I am not sure it can be done.  If that is what you are doing, good luck.  I would like to see what you come up with.

I'm using Jux 2.011. I've used other people's parameters as starting off points for my own creations. But the shell like shapes are compelling. I envision them as part of another fractal image.

This is so pretty! I had to stare at it for a while, it caught my eye so much.

Gorgeous!! Curious how long it took you and what program you used?

BlueButterflies by KmyGraphic  Thank you.  I used the latest release of JUX.  Time?  Hard to say.  Once I find what I like, I experiment with different gradients and lighting.  The longest part was the rendering,  Almost 30 hours.  www.xenodream.com/jux
