Smithing Tools by KSchnee Smithing Tools by KSchnee
A collection of smithing tools and examples of blacksmithing work. Near the center I spotted a scale-patterned device labeled "DRAGON", so naturally I asked about that. I used a hammer to try pounding this design into the metal, but the design didn't turn out very well. Partly due to the pattern bouncing around as it was struck, and partly due to my attempt to grind the surface smooth enough to be shiny and non-rusty but without grinding the scales off.

Done at Wrought Iron Arts of Largo, FL.

I only took a one-day lesson but it turned out well! I like studying the history of technology, so this was a fun thing to learn firsthand.

Heh, sorry but they're not mine! There are some videos on Youtube on how to set up your own equipment at a reasonable cost, though. One guy made a usable furnace out of a plastic folding chair, even. The only tools I actually needed were an anvil (as cheap as $25), the furnace, a hammer, tongs, gloves and an electric grinding tool. Today I bought some of that tap that's used on tennis rackets, to make a better grip for the knife.
