Sometimes I look back on my younger years, and my childhood, and just feel weirdly old with some of the newer concepts you hear about in some fandoms, particularly the MCU.
Like, I can understand why Loki is a fascinating character, but growing up with the Scandinavian mythology, I’ve can only shrug at people who go “WHY IS HE SUCH A VILLAIN?”
Like, Iunno, I’ve never known him necessarily as a villain, just a shifty character. I grew up with the Peter Madsen comics, where he's a sly bastard, who loves causing trouble. Not out of desperate attention, but simply just because or because he got himself roped into a dumb scheme.
And recently there's the thing with the Venom movie. I will say at once, that I'm just fine with Eddie Brock being made into a relateable character because of his depression and stuff like that?
But I also feel weirded out because I grew up with the 90s cartoon of Spiderman, where he was a massive asshole with the biggest hateboner for Spiderman ever. So seeing all this Venom fanart out there (especially the rather *cough* intimate kind), is a bit odd. Not off-putting, just odd.
(Speaking of 90s Spiderman, I wish they had finished that one. We never saw Peter find the Real Mary-Jane and that was always so off-putting to me.)
