new places new places new places
me, earlier: I'm going to suffer over this most elaborate panel ever that I put at the very end of this page
me, later: suffers
Okay but I still really like how all the environments here turned out, even if I didn't have it in me to render them in more detail, and dry grass surprisingly is 100 times harder to paint than green grass asjfgdlkas
It's so nice to make actual progress on the journey, I get to design all these places and I'm having a blast! It's also been ages since I did one of those maps to get a sense of where we are in the region, and it wasn't that terrible. Sticking with the style used in Pg. 22, which fortunately isn't very detailed, so it's no problem that I don't know exactly yet what the next areas will look like. :'D
I'm glad more of Sara's real personality is coming through now that she isn't weighed down by the Big Secret anymore. Now Sara, Pilot and Terry can unleash their scrappy bastard energy together
Jaeru Plains just looks like a normal grass Route with normal trees in-game, but the name inspired me to do something different. :V
And this is .... actually..... the route where the Shorts Cult is in-game, I really don't know how I mixed that up, but maybe it's for the better that they don't have Arcanine-level powerful Pokémon in-story. Yes the trainers start to have a lot of really interesting Pokémon around here!
I can't believe the Nathan's Tail is Full of Secrets and Also He's a Hoarder thing from the April Fool's comic is canon now. I blame everyone for not stopping me, but I also didn't tell anyone about this beforehand, so you didn't really have a chance. Well, you just find the Itemfinder lying on the ground there, and I apparently thought that was funny enough to warrant a big appearance like this.
Fun fact: I spent a long time finding out what Pilot's favourite berry is according to his nature. Berry flavours are just as complicated as I remembered them and there are also differences between Gen 3 and 4. But! I'm absolutely sure Pinap Berries are his favourite!
Benny and Ira are having A Moment over the sky! Ira grew up in a cave and Benny is from a patch of grass enclosed by that cave, so they haven't seen much of the sky so far in their lives.
Team Rocket's warehouse appears for the first time, but not the last time. Things will be going down here much later....
Finally an exciting catch. ;v; I really love Donna's name. Firstly, it's a nice name, and secondly it's a pun on Donner, the German word for thunder. ;D
Botan City is a city close to nature, on the edge of the big and scary Haunted Forest. Another interesting feature is the Train Station, even though you can't ride a train there in the game. I gave them a cool railroad bridge here. Not pictured is the lake in the south of the city. Maybe later. There's also a Game Corner run by the family of the 6th Gym Leader which can only be accessed later with Surf.
Okay I think that was all the thoughts for today!
Did you know that every comment you leave here makes 10 trees paint themselves on the next page?
Next time: Anyone remember Sam the Rival? It's been 3000 years, but he will be there.

I really love that after sharing her burden of what's going on with her sister that Sara has lightened up a bit and is able to allow herself to enjoy things a little more, it really seems like talking to the team took off that stress while instilling in them a strong motivation to keep pushing forward as well.
In a lot of stories, I do think that a problem that could be resolved through talking it out but puts it off because the script isn't ready to reveal the plot yet is somewhat of a pet peeve of mine, but it works out here. I can see Pokemon like say, Terry, being open to all that information and becoming all the more eager and determined for it, but the rest of her Pokemon, no so much, outside perhaps her starter. The others didn't KNOW her all too well yet and it takes a while to build that sort of rapport and relationship with people that you would be willing to help them through their own problems. delaying that reveal actually benefited the story in this case rather than being an arbitrary road block, which a LOT of stories do just for the shock value of the reveal, so it was VERY well handled here I think and wasn't without its reasons.
Less angst, more fun! ovob They sure stopped her from the downward spiral of being alone with those thoughts.
Thank you so much, I'm so glad you think the reveal was at the right time!
It couldn't be too early since there's no way in hell Sara would tell her sister's story to someone she didn't trust a lot (and preferably not even then, so we also needed to reach a breaking point), but it also couldn't drag out so long that it would be unrealistic for the team to just keep going along/not noticing. I thought about this a lot since the "there wouldn't be a problem and therefore no story if they communicated like normal people" thing really is super boring, so I'm really glad it worked out!!
Oh I love this page... some people would have dedicated an entire page to developing each aspect that you picked for each scene, but you condensed all of it into smaller scenes while still capturing the most important emotions and information. It's efficient and effective! Overall, your composition is really hitting well too. I especially love the panel where Nathan is in the foreground with his ears twitching while the battle is happening behind him. Your art skills just astound me every page. :')
Is the map really like that in Rijon?? A loop like that with the accidental allowance for anyone to go into the hell gym??? I cannot blame you in the slightest for the Sceptile incident at this point. Not that there was much blame in the first place. But still.
Really loving Pilot and Sara's moment just wanting revenge for their embarrassment. I love that Sara's personality can finally shine through now that her team really knows what's going on in her life. I also love Terry being the voice of reason for Sara and Pilot's unhinged need to defeat the gym leader and then immediately summoning the jeep of trainers. The oracle has spoken! You gotta train if you wanna kill a Sceptile!!
The tail of items... you just reveal that Nathan is actually kind of gross and keeps all of these items with him and then said fuck the itemfinder's rights. I'm laughing. The grouping of teammate interactions is really giving a good sense of everyone's relationship with each other. Again, you did such a good job with this, considering the length of the scenes!
Okay, an elekid is such a badass catch but she has a sad backstory so I hope if she does become a more permanent member of the team that she gets her chance to show that TR grunt the electric business...
In this four-part essay, Nikky injects the serotonin directly into my bloodstream
So true! It may be a weakness that I don't know how to and don't want to write long, sprawling dialogues about everything like everyone else seems to do, but I don't need them! It's a simple story, all the points can be understood even when condensed down to nearly the minimum. This approach makes me not want to die while working on the comic since I get to make substantial progress with every page, so I'm very happy to hear this kind of validation. ;v; <
I love doing panels like the one with Nathan in front of the battle because it's..... two actions in one panel - so efficient!
Yes! That's the map!! The only change was that I made the lake smaller because in-game it didn't seem like a lake that takes up a third of the country's area. x'D All we needed was one NPC blocking the entrance to the Gym until you first get to the area in the south of the city or something, then everything would have been fine...
Terry enjoys being unhinged too, but not that unhinged. He truly has found his place in life.
Just channeling my amusement about finding the Itemfinder on the ground, everything that would come out of this just had to be ten times more absurd... Nathan can handle it, he's still endearing enough.
Yes the game finally pulls through with the exciting catches! God I hope that happens, too 👀
And I’m very glad that it isn’t obvious whether Donna will get a big role or not, I‘m giving screentime to many of the catches on purpose so every new team member will be a surprise. :3c
the change in your art style is stellar and i love your characters so much cant wait to read the next page but take your time
