As for today, Charles Martinet will no longer be voicing Mario and other characters for future Nintendo games. I'm actually quite surprised. I loved his work as the character, and he'll always be Mario to us. It's a tough pill to swallow for many of us, but that's life. This is an end of an era for the Mario Franchise. Now Charles is moving into the role of Mario Ambassador. I don't know what that means, but he'll still be traveling the world sharing the joy of Mario and interacting with fans, as many voice actors do.
Nintendo will also be releasing a special video featuring Charles himself and Shigeru Miyamoto in the near future. Keep an eye out for that.
Anyway, Charles Martinet is not dead yet… He's just retiring.
Charles Martinet didn't just voicing Mario, but he's voicing Luigi, Wario, Waluigi, Toadsworth, Baby Mario, Baby Luigi, among several other male characters. He also voiced some members of the Koopa Troop, such as Goombas, Bob-ombs, Monty Moles, Whomps, and Thwomps. All of which use pitch-shifted versions of Mario's voice samples from Super Mario 64, as well as voicing the male bosses in Super Mario Advance.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder will be the first game to feature his replacement(s). I don't know who's that new voice actor is, but we shall found out his name once that game came out.
