Spike-ish Sculpture

tumblr||YouTube||Instagram||WeLoveFine Shop

Another sculpture from the past weeks.

It is made out of Fimo (air basic and air light) and coated with a layer of wax to seal the surface and give it a little more contrast.

It was rather ambiguous - and I may have somewhat shifted the anatomy to my liking :)

Wow, this is so cool! I could see Spike looking like this when he grows older. I love it!

He looks...more like an older skylanders spyro..but I like it regardless. :)

Curious about the pinched waist. What sparked that design decision?

Some of the references that I used for this had a similar design and I liked it :)

This is a great interpretation of an anthropomorphic dragon, I must say.  The detail seems anatomically feasible as well; the muscle detail is apparent.  Great job!

This is very well done, I really like the anatomy and styled used for it. How is the wax coating done, is it with a pot of melted wax and then a quick dip or is it painted on somehow?

Thank you, I'm happy that you like it :)

To add the wax, I put the sculpture in an oven at 100°C for about 10-20 minutes. Along with a small glass bowl with wax. Then I took it all out and painted the molten wax onto the sculpture with brush. Once the wax started to cool off, it (the sculpture and the wax-bowl) went back into the oven for a few minutes. That process was repeated until the wax coat seemed to cover the sculpture evenly enough.
