It's been a long time since the beginning of my artist (as hobbyist) journey, so I wanted to review my work so far:
I've been drawing for 16 years
I've been drawing with SAI/Photoshop for 9 years, and had more than 5 different pseudonyms
I've done 60 digital artworks
60 illustrations in 9 years. This is reeeeeeally not much at all (even for a hobbyist lol). But looking back at all of my old works and gathering it helped me to analyze some things about my art:
Even though I don't draw that much, and while I improved over the years, I still find my style to have changed so many times. Sometimes even over short periods of time. And it is still evolving today.
Though that may not be so good if I want it to be recognizable or have a coherent gallery...
It also helped me to compare everything and every style I had, and it makes me realize that my old anime style misses me lol (especially the one in my Harime Nui fanart). So maybe when I want to make a doodle or a quick drawing for others I'll draw with this style.
By looking at my very first artworks, I could remember the time when I drew during that period, and felt extremely nostalgic...
I don't know how to say that, but I used to love drawing for me, and for the process of the illustration.
Now the mood has changed... I can't help thinking about how the artwork can be appreciated by others, how I struggle to finish a drawing, because I screwed up the process and find even the unfinished result ugly and beyond repair...
But now I love the drawing process in a different way: making a lot of researches to draw different kinds of material, making details, taking my time...
To conclude, this review allowed me to step back from my own appreciation of art, from how I can embrace the drawing process of different kinds of illustration (quick doodles or bigger projects), and how difficult but rich the path of the artist is through the years!
And last but not least, I don't forget to thank my friends and family who supported me all this time
This is not the end, just a new chapter of this journey
May yours be a rewarding experience too
