INTERVIEW Q#1

Tell us a little bit about yourself! What first perked your interest in the Anthro community and Anthro art itself?

I’m a huge fan of animals. I watch national geographic and animal planet probably a little too much. The idea of combining animals and humans into a new species played around in my mind. I’d think of the problems they would have, or possibly the improvements they would take place.. I thought it would make for a great story and art.

What is your favorite medium to work with? Why? How long have you been working with this medium?  

I went to art school to become a painter. I wanted to work in oils on canvas and make a living at it, but in todays market I adapted to computer work. I work in photoshop and painter. I try to approach the
designs like I was doing a painting on canvas .

What is your favorite piece from your gallery? Why?

Probably the Carnal book illustration . That got a lot of response and I kind of like how the eyes came out.

Your work is so inspiring and brings a new palette to the world of art. Your Anthro art seems to derive from more human like beings who have morphed into animals through long processes in time. Can you tell us a little bit about what sparked this story? These characters?

It started with a nightmare 10 years ago of a humanistic rhino fighting humanistic hyenas. It was from that dream that I started doing designs and the story just started to percolate. It took about 10 years of working on it off and on but I have it pretty clear in my head how it will all play out. I love the idea of the animals evolving over a long period of time, their flaws and different struggles.

Where does most of your inspiration come from for your artwork?

That’s hard to answer. Everywhere I guess. Sometimes images pop into my head but most of the time I work on a design and change it a hundred times before it actually becomes something.

Being an artist we always find ourselves improving and growing from our old works. What is your least favorite piece in your gallery? Have you learned a lot sense this piece artistic wise?

I usually don’t like anything I do, I cringe when I look at old designs and I think what the hell was I thinking? Looking at old designs I see how my style is changing and the brush work is different.

What do you find most challenging about Anthro art or your art in general?

I think its getting a good balance of animal and humanistic form and making it believable. That is what I struggle with.

How long have you had a passion for Anthro art? Was there someone who inspired you? A group of people?

Ever since I saw Frank Frazettas painting of a werewolf when I was just a kid, I have been fascinated with the idea of Anthro.

Is there anything that you are working on, project wise / art wise, that you want to share with the community?

Between my full time job, my family and working on Carnal I haven’t had a hole lot of time to pursue some other ideas I had but I will get around to them. It’s still a little too early to share.

Do you have any advice to offer future / current / aspiring Anthro artists?

Yes. Work on your vision of anthro characters. The great thing about anthro is there are no rules to how your characters should look. It is a huge limitless category that you can create in. Keep working and improving your characters. In my case, the designs kind of went through their own evolution and were always changing.
