New character design for a hush hush not really that secret new project!
In the early years of the Twentieth Century, British Lord Edgar Mallory discovered a strange gemstone during an archaeological dig in Egypt. Placing the gem on his forehead, he was granted incredible powers - the gem was the fabled Stone of Ra, and gave him the ability to control and manipulate light. Mallory used his powers to fight evil as the first Paragon, and on his death, the stone was passed to his son. So it continued, with each bearer of the Stone of Ra passing it to their eldest child - until the fifth Paragon's wife gave birth to twins.
As the children grew, Erik Mallory postponed deciding which would inherit the mantle of Paragon, unwilling to choose between his children. He finally decided to devise a series of tests, and the daughter who passed the tests would be given the jewel. One of the children, Elsa, pushing herself too hard in the test, was gravely injured. Her sister Elizabeth had the chance to win, but turned back to help her sister. Angry that the test had almost caused her sister's death, Elizabeth renounced her birthright and angrily departed, which let Elsa win by default. Elizabeth left the family estate and her inheritance, moving to London and getting a job.
Elsa however, was eager to claim the power of the stone and ultimately engineered her father's death, allying with one of his enemies so that she could claim the Stone and the power. As she placed the stone on her forehead, the gem judged her unworthy and vanished. It was Elizabeth who in not wanting the power had been found worthy, and she who became the new Paragon. Elsa was driven over the edge and became the criminal Baroness - her primary objective being to take back the stone, and the power, from her twin.
POWERS: Beth Mallory possesses a number of superhuman abilities derived from the gemstone she wears on her forehead. The gem absorbs solar radiation and channels it - enabling her to create solid light constructs (think of it as the same as the constructs made by a Green Lantern's power ring) The strength and durability of these constructs depends on the level of concentration that she applies, and on the amount of solar power the gem contains - more in direct sunlight than at night for example. Mallory routinely uses the gem to create a suit of solid light armour around herself, and to create swords and shields. She can also deliver focused blasts of light energy directly from the stone.
When Mallory places the stone on her forehead, a sudden burst of solar energy vaporises her clothing and replaces it with the solid light armour, enabling her to transform into her heroic form instantly. The costume is always gold armour but the exact form can take any form she imagines, so not always as it appears here.
So - there we have it! A new character with a name and backstory and everything! Your thoughts, suggestions and comments are, as always, most welcome!
