Metaphase Cellular Mitosis (Animated) by Kosmic-Stardust Metaphase Cellular Mitosis (Animated) by Kosmic-Stardust
Cellular Mitosis occurs within living cells as the nucleus divides, first duplicating all chromosomal pairs, followed by the nucleus followed by the entire cell. I have replicated this effect within the Mandelbrot fractal by methodically zooming into slightly different areas of a "Metaphase"-like formation, to give the illusion of living cellular division. I have compiled a GIF animation comprised of individual frames from slightly different areas of the Mandelbrot fractal, creating 12 frames and merging them into a stop motion animation using the GIF format.

A long while back, Michael Condron of HPDZ.net posted a video called "Metaphase" which supposedly showed the origins of life as little chromosome-like formations within the Mandelbrot set. The original coordinates were based on a Fractint PAR file published by Paul Derbyshire. More info can be found here: [link]

As anyone who has followed my fractal art may well know, over the past few years, I have explored these "X" formations until exhausting all possibilities, culminating with "Magnum Opus Ex". Please have a look around in my fractal gallery if you haven't already.
