[Return to the Zone] - 31/X - Shift in perspective

"What happened?" Valentine seemed upset, but Nikolai just looked at him.
"What happened after you lost me?"
Nikolai was still silent.
"You knew she was following us, didn't you? Say, are you planning to answer me at some point, or do I have to tie you to a chair and beat you up?"
"That hasn't worked before."
"Ah, he speaks! ...are you telling me what happened now?"
"No. I would prefer to keep that for myself."
"Are you serious? Damn, you are serious? Listen to me, Nikolai, I will now tell you what I think happened, and I will also tell Makarov that when he asks, unless you tell me the truth, then I will help you make the version believable that you want to sell him."
Nikolai looked up.
"Well then, go ahead."
"Damn stubborn bastard. All right... she followed us... Then you dropped out and she followed you. Did you reach the center then? But that probably doesn't matter. Then you bump into a few monoliths and she didn't survive. Is that it?

[Return to the Zone] - 30/X - The days are counted

Then came another evening when Nikolai was talkative.
Somewhere he had gotten a bottle of Cognac. As tattered as the label was, I vividly imagined how he must have relieved the original owner from it.
And he had two glasses, not quite suitable for a cultivated person, but quite good enough for the local conditions.
Viktor and Valentine were not present. So it's been me, he wanted to invite...
Some dreams I have had the last days came up again...
"Sit down."
He didn't say 'we have to talk', but it sounded clear enough somewhere between this two words. I sat down obediently.
"You surely still have questions. Now is a good time to ask them."
He didn't talk long around the bush. No Intro like 'How's your day been?' I was used to this behaviour, but nevertheless I hesitated for a moment. Somehow it sounded like there wouldn't be an opportunity later. It sounded like a goodbye.
What did he know that I did not know?
"You stay with Viktor for the

[Return to the Zone] - 29/X - Valentine and Viktor

Valentine had lived in Bournemouth in the South of England. He had long served in a special unit of the British army and afterwards he had worked for private security companies. This had ultimately led him into the Zone. He did not want to and was not allowed to give details.
How he had met Nikolai, he had already told us.
I learned from him that he had been married and had a son. He was also divorced, which probably connected him with Nikolai.
He told me that his son had given him the name, it had been his favorite character in a computer game, a detective who was actually a robot. The boy had found that very cool.
I then wanted to know how old the boy was, because by chance I knew the game and knew that it was a NC-17 title. Valentine didn't want to betray any more, but he was almost 16. After all.
I also wanted to know whether his assignment was over or whether he actually wanted to stay in the Zone. He only hinted that he was no longer work

I started with drawing - not very successful, even painted with oil on canvasv (and even sold two pieces - I really don't know why) then went over to 3D rendering, what was a lot of fun. (and the best way to tell storys - what I always wanted)
I don't kno why I stopped...
For a while I dealt with photography, even made places in a few local (german/bavarian) competitions, and stood in front of the camera, too. ;)
Now I'back back for rendering - it's still a lot of fun... even more... :D
And I extended in writing. In combination a much better way of telling stories.
