Ratha's gratitude by Kooskia Ratha's gratitude by Kooskia

I've finished to read the first book of the Named series, Ratha's Creature.
I found it amazing but i will wait a little bit to write all i think about this story.

This is one of the scenes that really touched me.
I know it's a bit uncorrect (Ratha was outside the den, not inside) and all the position of battle scars is just guessing.

But i really wanted to make a small tribute for such scene because it was very very nice

(PS For who have not read the book, he has just dig a den for her, hurting his paws, because she's pregnant and it's still winter ^^)

PLEASE; IF YOU FAVE IT, DON'T RUSH AND RUN, LEAVE A LITTLE COMMENT!!
IT'S NICE TALKING WITH OTHERS ; )

Hi Kooskia,

I just wanted to tell you that your art inspired me to add that scene back into the Ratha graphic novel script. Due to page length worries, I'd left it out, but I managed to fit it back in. It was one of my favorite scenes, and I'm glad you reminded me.

I'm happy for it, my art it's not so great but the scene was very sweet and it really broke for a little  the tension in that point that was growing inside Ratha.

That was a touching moment, and I like the way you've done it.  I realize now that I've left it out of the Ratha's Creature Graphic graphic novel storyboards/script, and I should go back and put in in.  I was concerned about page count, but I know it would fit in a few panels.
Thanks for reminding me!

Oh i'm so glad and happy to have helped you! I think it was a very nice scene! There are not many moments when Ratha show affection or gratitude to Bonechewer during the council of Unnamed leaders and in the follow-up of the attack. And it's reasonable after all the feelings she have after such terrible events!

However if you don't mind... i've a little question xD
Something that i was wondering about and it's a bit left to reader's feelings i think.

Bonechewer: when he reveals that he had litters with other Unnamed females,  this means he had started to take care and help Ratha only because he wanted to try with a Named female to produce kits with will?  Or maybe he felt feelings for her and then it happened their mating and at this point he hoped that the kits could have been with will?

From the reading, i THINK that actually Bonechewer's plan was attempting to have kits with Ratha from the beginning...  and this is why Ratha could also have felt  of having been "used" by him.  However i also like to think that after all Bonechewer has started to care of Ratha as mate.

The Named mating drive is the same as that for other cats, i.e. the females go into heat, and the males are affected. They don't think about kits at that stage; they are caught up in the mating fever. However, they still have feelings for each other as humans do.

Bonechewer probably didn't even think of kits when he mated with Ratha, but he did have feelings for her. So your second suggestion is the best answer. He did hope that the kits would have intelligence (wit), and when they appeared to lack it, he hid his disappointment. And he definitely has begun to care for Ratha as a mate.

Thanks for the info! It's really interesting, i appreciate both a student of biology and both as reader such realism.
Honestly i find a bit amusing how other famous feline/animal series absolutely ignore such aspect or make it heavy humanized.

I think that with such decision you've created unique opportunities for the fandom to explore the relationships of characters and feeling (this also in fanfictions/Original characters etc....)

Honestly i've wondered if making one of my parodies comic focused on Ratha and Bonechewer, with Ratha saying something: "So... you've actually tried more the one times with Unnamed females  and as consequence you sired who-know-how-many litters, now i realize why the Unnamed are so numerous and cause so much issues to us".  Basically saying Bonechewer that's all his fault that the Unnamed are numerous compared the Named ^^
It had to be something of silly, but... the emotional background of the scene in the book was too much distant to make a parody (with Ratha uspet and on verge of that collapse) and i've realized that it was a bit strange to draw it.

By the way, i've realized these two fanarts recently:
kooskia.deviantart.com/art/Are…
kooskia.deviantart.com/art/Are…

I've been a bit lazy on Thakur's colour (missed the white tail's tip) and i've wondered a bit on the Aree's one. But i catched on some fanarts (and book text) that she has something of brown on her fur.

Are they cats? The yellow girl looks puma-like.

they're prehistoric-style felines similar to cheetah (the actual species it's intelligence are creations of the author of the series).
In the book they've an high degree of colours, from yellow to copper, to gray/silver and even a black one.

LOL! The ancient prehistoric cats. Everyone knows, all ancient animals had to be saber-toothed.

PS However the author is here on deviantart, i've put her page on the fanart's details ^^
